Connor Barth News
The Chicago Bears waived place kicker Connor Barth on Monday and signed free-agent Cairo Santos (groin) to a one-year deal in a corresponding move, according to an NFL source. Barth was cut after missing a 46-yard field goal in Week 11 that would've sent the game against the Lions to overtime. Santos had been put on Injured Reserve Sept. 30 by the Chiefs, but he appears to be healed now and will serve as Chicago's kicker for the final six games of the season. Santos had been 3-for-3 on field goals and perfect in his six extra points in the first three weeks with KC. Santos is an 88.6 percent field goal kicker in the NFL and should immediately be on the streaming radar at the position.
Connor Barth and the Bears take on the Packers Thursday night in Green Bay. Barth this season is 2-for-3 on field goal attempts, missing a 47-yard attempt last week. The Bears offense simply is not explosive enough to warrant a fantasy look from Barth on top of the fact he is not among the most accurate kickers in the league. He has the leg to make the kicks but struggles nailing kicks from 40 yards and out. The Bears will need touchdowns to hang in a game against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Barth should stay on the bench for Week 4.
Connor Barth made every single field goal during Bears special teams drills on Monday, per chicagotribune.com. This comes on the heels of the Bears picking up kicker Robert Aguayo off waivers from the Buccaneers. Aguayo was cut only one year removed from beating Barth out for a roster spot on the Buccaneers and now the two will compete again in Chicago. Agauyo did not kick during practice but the two kickers will surely split time the rest of the preseason before determining who will be the starter. Barth made 18-of-23 field goals last season for the Bears.
