LeGarrette Blount News
Former NFL running back LeGarrette Blount announced his retirement on Instagram on Saturday. The three-time Super Bowl champion last played in 2018 and announced the news on his 34th birthday. Blount had a bruising rushing style in his nine seasons in the league with six different teams. He began his career as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon with the Titans. Blount spent each of his final two seasons with the Eagles and the Lions. He won two of his Super Bowl rings with the Patriots and one with Philadelphia when they beat the Patriots. He'll finish his career with 6,306 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns. In 11 playoff games he had 600 yards and 11 scores.
Veteran running back LeGarrette Blount announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday, ending a nine-year career that ended three times with a Super Bowl victory. Blount's best individual season came in 2016 when he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns (18) with the Patriots. Known for his bruising rushing style, Blount carried considerable fantasy intrigue when on the field due to his propensity for receiving carries near the goal line. Having been out of the league since an '18 stint with the Lions, Blount was firmly off all season-long radars, but he can now receive an official tip of the cap from fantasy managers for his years of production.
The Detroit Lions are not expected to re-sign impending unrestricted free-agent running back LeGarrette Blount this offseason. Tight ends Levine Toilolo and Luke Willson and defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois are also expected to hit the open market. The 32-year-old Blount had 154 carries for only 418 yards (career-low 2.7 yards per carry) and five touchdowns in his only season in Detroit. He had a whopping 18 touchdowns with the Patriots in 2016, but that was an outlier season for the former Oregon Duck, as he never topped six scores in any other year. He doesn't have much left at this point in his career and is strictly a short-yardage, goal-line back.
