Justin Houston News
The Carolina Panthers have released veteran edge rusher Justin Houston. The four-time Pro Bowler has been on the Injured Reserve list since November 4 due to a hamstring injury, but he reportedly is willing to play again this season for a contending team. According to NFL media's Field Yates, teams would only owe Houston $194,000 for the rest of the season if they claimed him off waivers. Although he has just half of a sack this year, it's a low-risk add for a playoff contender. Houston is tied for the 26th-most sacks of all time (112) and posted 9.5 sacks as a Baltimore Raven last year. The 34-year-old could draw interest as a rotational pass rusher.
Free-agent linebacker Justin Houston agreed to a one-year deal with the Panthers on Sunday. The multi-time Pro Bowler is still productive despite being in the league for over a decade. He has 505 total tackles, five interceptions, and 34 passes defensed in 163 games on his resume. Houston also has 111.5 sacks during his career, including 9.5 from last season, his most since 2019. Without question, adding the 2011 third-round pick is a good move for Carolina, considering he'll be paired with Brian Burns, who had 12.5 sacks in 2022.
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Justin Houston (groin) was forced to exit the team's Week 3 victory over the New England Patriots and did not return. The former Pro Bowler suffered a groin strain, but head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that Houston could return as early as Week 4. More details should be revealed early in the week, but the team will hope to have Houston back for a showdown with the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.
