Lavonte David News
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are keeping star linebacker Lavonte David around after agreeing to a one-year deal with him on Tuesday that is worth up to $10 million, according to sources. David's base value will be around $9 million in 2024. It's a huge win for the Buccaneers defense, as the 34-year-old former All-Pro will stick around for his 13th season with the organization in 2024. David led the club with 134 tackles (86 solo) last year, also adding 4.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, five QB hits, five passes defended and a forced fumble in 15 regular-season starts. Although he's nearing the end of his career, as long as David stays on the field, he should be in consideration for a starting lineup spot at linebacker in IDP fantasy leagues on a weekly basis. In his 12-year NFL career David has failed to reach 100-plus total tackles just twice.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said that linebackers Lavonte David (groin) and Devin White (foot), defensive back Jamel Dean (ankle, foot) and defensive tackle Mike Greene (calf) are all out for the Week 13 game against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. Those are some key pieces that will be missing from a Buccaneers defense that already hasn't been very good this year. This will be David's second straight missed game. White has been dealing with a foot injury in recent weeks but has played through it. Dean suffered an ankle injury in the Week 11 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and was forced to miss last week's loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The Bucs still have a great matchup this weekend against the one-win Panthers, but not having David, White and Dean is definitely notable.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles officially ruled out linebacker Lavonte David (groin) and cornerback Jamel Dean (ankle) for the Week 12 contest versus the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Devin White (foot) is also up in the air to play this weekend, so the Bucs could be missing three key defenders against Indy. With David out, K.J. Britt and SirVocea Dennis could both see increased snaps in the middle of Tampa's defense. Zyon McCollum and Dee Delaney should see more playing time in the secondary with Dean out. David was tied for 15th in overall fantasy points at the linebacker position in IDP leagues coming into Week 12, so fantasy managers in those formats will be forced to go in another direction if they were using David in a starting spot. It's a pretty big blow to the Bucs' defense this week.
