Michael Brockers News
The Detroit Lions released defensive lineman Michael Brockers on Friday. In his 11th NFL season and second with the Lions in 2022, Brockers was limited to six games (five starts) as a healthy scratch for most of the second half of the season. The 32-year-old finished with just four tackles (one solo) and a pass defensed. By parting ways with the veteran defensive tackle, the Lions will save almost $14 million against the 2023 salary cap, so it was pretty much a no-brainer move for the improving Lions. Brockers could latch on with another team in free agency if he wants to continue his playing career, but he's highly unlikely to have anything other than a rotational role on the D line.
Detroit Lions defensive tackle Michael Brockers reworked his contract following his trade from the Los Angeles Rams, according to a source. He now has a three-year, $24 million deal that includes $11 million fully guaranteed. Brockers previously had no guarantees in his contract. Brockers and the Rams were unable to agree on a contract restructure to help save salary cap space in 2021, so they dealt him to Detroit. The Lions sent a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Rams to complete the deal. Brockers was scheduled to make $8 million in 2021 and declined to take a pay cut to stay in Los Angeles. The 30-year-old was one of the last remaining players of the team that played in St. Louis. He had five sacks, five tackles for loss and 10 QB hits in his final season with the Rams in 2020.
The Detroit Lions are finalizing a deal to acquire veteran defensive lineman Michael Brockers from the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday night, according to sources. The Rams had previously asked Brockers to adjust his contract to help create more salary cap space for the 2021 season, but the two sides couldn't come to an agreement. The 30-year-old was the 14th overall pick in the first round out of LSU in 2012 by the then-St. Louis Rams. He's spend all nine of his NFL seasons playing for the Rams, recording 395 combined tackles (48 for loss), 62 QB hits, nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 28 sacks in 138 career games (136 starts). In 15 starts in 2020, Brockers had 51 combined tackles (five for loss), 10 QB hits and five sacks.
