Tyler Eifert News
The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to decline the team option for tight end Tyler Eifert, according to a source. Eifert was expected to earn a little under $5 million for the 2021 season if his option had been picked up, but he'll become a free agent instead. The oft-injured tight end managed to play in 15 games in Jacksonville in 2020, but he caught just 36 passes on 60 targets for 349 yards and two touchdowns in one of the worst offenses in football. The 30-year-old could be productive in the right situation, so his fantasy value heading into 2021 will depend entirely on where he lands and whether he'll have a shot to be a team's top pass-catching tight end. But because of his extensive injury history, Eifert is unlikely to be anything more than an upside low-end TE2.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Tyler Eifert was held to just one reception for 10 yards during Sunday's loss to the Colts. Eifert had hauled in multiple receptions in each of his past eight games. Injuries undoubtedly played a role in Eifert being slowed during his time on the field in 2020, as he finished the year with 36 catches for 349 receiving yards to go along with his two touchdowns. Should Jacksonville decide to stick with Eifert at the TE spot heading into next year, he should benefit from consistent quarterback play with the Jaguars likely to instill a new face under center.
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Tyler Eifert has held down a consistent role as a red-zone target in the team's offense of late, giving him some DFS appeal Sunday versus Chicago due to his low price tag. Eifert has made multiple catches in seven straight games and is the rare pass-catching member of the Jacksonville offense to not be adversely affected by quarterbackMike Glennon's return to the starting lineup in Week 16. Glennon and Eifert linked up for a touchdown in Week 12 before the TE pulled down six catches the following week. While he has low-end TE1 appeal in season-long formats, Eifert could be a sound contrarian play Sunday due to his matchup versus a stout Bears Defense.
