Kelvin Benjamin News
Former New York Giants wide receiver/tight end Kelvin Benjamin was suspended two weeks of the regular season on Wednesday. The reason to why the 30-year-old was suspended is unclear at this time. Benjamin will be out two weeks if he's able to latch onto another team. The Giants released him in training camp after Benjamin had a heated conversation with head coach Joe Judge and general manager David Gettleman before storming off the field during a practice. The former wide receiver attempted a comeback in the NFL as a tight end. Benjamin hauled in 25 catches on 62 targets for 380 yards and one touchdown for the Bills/Chiefs in 2018.
The New York Giants are expected to release tight end/wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin on Wednesday. According to Steve Politi of the Star-Ledger, Benjamin had a heated conversation with head coach Joe Judge and general manager David Gettleman before storming off the field. He reportedly will be released by the Giants today. The former wide receiver attempted a comeback in the NFL as a tight end and signed with the Giants during the offseason. Benjamin hauled in 25 catches on 62 targets for 380 yards and one touchdown for the Bills/Chiefs in 2018. The 30-year-old will look to latch onto another team and prove he has something left in the tank.
The New York Giants signed former first-round wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin following a tryout at rookie minicamp last weekend. Benjamin, who hasn't been on an NFL roster since the end of the 2018 season, will play tight end. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder will be reunited with general manager Dave Gettleman, who drafted Benjamin with the Carolina Panthers in 2014. Benjamin caught 73 passes for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns in his rookie season, but that has been the high point of his career after he tore his ACL the next season. While he has the necessary size at tight end, he'll join a crowded room in New York, headed by Evan Engram and former Pro Bowler Kyle Rudolph. The Giants also have Kaden Smith and Levine Toilolo as backups, so Benjamin will be a long shot at this new position. New York also signed running back Corey Clement on Sunday.
