Miguel Cabrera News
Following Sunday's regular season finale, Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera will become the team's special assistant to the president of baseball operations. Cabrera will officially hang up his cleats and retire after a storied career that will surely lead him to being a first-ballot Hall of Famer. But when he's done putting on a uniform, he'll remain with Detroit and work in their front office. The 40-year-old Venezuelan only has four home runs in his final big-league season, and he's also hitting .254 (82-for-323) with just 33 RBI and 20 runs scored. Miggy is finishing his career off strong, though, going 18-for-60 (.300) with a homer, two doubles, nine RBI and four runs scored in his 16 starts in September.
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera was removed from Thursday's game in the sixth inning after fouling a pitch off his lower leg. There are no signs of a fracture and Cabrera will be re-evaluated after the game. Miggy is in the midst of his final season of baseball, one which will hopefully not end with this injury. It is very likely that even if Cabrera is injured, he will take an at-bat in the team's final game to get one last hoorah. Although he's slowed down the past few years, Miggy has had an inner-circle hall-of-fame caliber career.
Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera is being moved up to the cleanup spot for Tuesday's contest against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Sonny Gray. It's the future Hall of Famer's first assignment in the cleanup spot in the 2023 season as he has largely hit seventh for A.J. Hinch this season. Cabrera's final tour in the big leagues appeared disastrous out of the gate but the 40-year-old heated up along with the weather this season, hitting .291 with a 10.6% BB%, a .768 OPS, and .340 wOBA since June 1, good for a 118 wRC+ that sits 18% above the league average. Cabrera is 8-for-23 (.348) with two homers and five walks versus five strikeouts in 28 career plate appearances against Gray.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera will likely be shining his plaque at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown shortly after his playing career is over. It's just a shame that his recent and likely future production will be a shell of what it used to be during his prime. After hitting just 15 home runs over 706 plate appearances from 2018-19, Cabrera hit 10 homers through just 231 plate appearances in 2020. It seems as if this perceived bump in power was a product of MLB's regional schedule, as four of them came against the rebuilding Kansas City Royals and another three against the Minnesota Twins. He played the majority of last year against teams with winning records, and his .234/.313/.345 slash line doesn't instill a ton of confidence with a full season currently on tap. The Tigers finished 2020 with a team wRC+ of 89 and a team on-base percentage of .303, both among the worst in baseball. Without a great offense around him and his own diminished performance, utility-only eligible Cabrera has become unrosterable in standard-sized leagues, which is why his ADP is all the way down to 494.
