Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Archie Bradley avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to an undisclosed one-year deal. Many pegged Bradley as the favorite for saves in Arizona's bullpen heading into 2018, but that didn't happen and they preferred to use him in a setup role. The hard-throwing righty had a 3.64 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 75 K's in 71 2/3 innings and three saves on the season. Because it's unclear if Bradley or Yoshihisa Hirano will be the primary ninth-inning guy in 2019, Bradley is merely a late-round flier for those speculating on saves.
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo appears to be leaning toward using relief pitcher Archie Bradley as the team's closer next season. The D-backs preferred to use Bradley as more of a setup man in 2018, although he did close out three games to go along with a 3.64 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 75 K's in 71 2/3 innings. Yoshihisa Hirano is another option and he finished the year as the ninth-inning man, but Bradley is the team's most dominant reliever and deserves ninth-inning duties. His fantasy value will increase as a result, but his leash probably won't be all that long.
Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Archie Bradley picked up his third save of the season on Monday, giving up one hit over 1 1/3 innings in the Diamondbacks 7-4 win over the Angels. Bradley finished off the eighth inning and manager Torey Lovullo left him in for the ninth inning. Brad Boxberger may have been unavailable Monday after blowing Sunday's lead in spectacular fashion. There's been no word of a closer change, so owners don't need to rush to the wire for him yet.
