Luis Rengifo News
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo is back on the bench ahead of Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox. The 27-year-old has started only two of the first seven games for the Halos this season. It's obvious that manager Ron Washington doesn't consider Rengifo an everyday player right now. It'll likely take an injury to Anthony Rendon for Rengifo to get more playing time. At the moment, Rengifo appears to be stuck in a platoon spot.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (illness) was removed from Wednesday's win over the Miami Marlins early after feeling light-headed. Before leaving the contest, Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a strikeout out of the leadoff spot. Rookie first baseman Nolan Schanuel entered in place of Rengifo, who was likely dealing with dehydration. The good news for Rengifo is that the Angels have a day off on Thursday before returning home on Friday to face the visiting Boston Red Sox for a three-game series this weekend. Hopefully, the off day will allow Rengifo to come into Friday's game feeling 100 percent. However, Wednesday's start was only his second on the season with Anthony Rendon playing third and Brandon Drury starting at second most of the time in the early going.
After sitting out Tuesdays' victory, Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo is starting at third base and batting leadoff on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins and left-hander A.J. Puk. With Rengifo getting the start at the hot corner, Anthony Rendon is getting the day off in Miami. Brandon Drury is at second base and batting fifth in the order. The 27-year-old switch-hitting Rengifo has only started two of the team's first six games on the year and has gone 2-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and a strikeout in three games played. Unless he starts to play more regularly for the Halos, Rengifo probably isn't worth a roster spot in deep-mixed leagues for infield depth. Rengifo is 0-for-3 in his career against Puk.

Los Angeles Angels utility player Luis Rengifo took yet another step forward in the 2023 season. Interestingly, he hit .264 and stole six bases for the second straight season and his 16 homers were just one shy of his 2022 total. Despite the eerily similar production, the biggest difference in his game was his patience at the plate as he nearly tripled his walk rate from 3.3% in 2022 to 9.2% in 2023 while continuing to limit his strikeouts at 18.4%. The 27-year-old doesn't offer much in terms of runs and RBI and his Statcast numbers don't jump off the page but he offers a solid OPS floor and pop with some speed to boot. Perhaps his biggest asset is his versatility with eligibility at second base, third base, shortstop, and outfield. His best value is at the keystone but his 241.27 ADP is fair value considering the various tools and versatility Rengifo brings to the table.
