Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk in a 7-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Gimenez's three-run shot in the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie between the division rivals and wound up being the winning blow. The 23-year-old infielder is hitting .287 with five homers, 15 runs, 23 RBI, and three steals over 122 at-bats for Cleveland in 2022. He has forced his way into the conversation as a viable fantasy option in deeper mixed leagues.
Cleveland Guardians infielder Andres Gimenez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup again the Toronto Blue Jays. Gimenez is having himself a solid year at the plate thus far, batting .344 with two home runs, one stolen base, and a .895 OPS. Taking his spot in the lineup is Richie Palacios, batting eighth. The rookie is slashing .304/.360/.348 this season over eight games. He showed an ability to hit for average in the minors, hitting .309 in his minor league career. He also racked up 30 stolen bases over 162 games. For fantasy managers needing a batting average and stolen base boost, Palacios isn't a bad waiver wire pickup.
Cleveland Indians shortstop Andres Gimenez has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus, according to Ashley Bastock of the Beacon Journal. To make room for him on the roster, the Indians optioned relief pitcher J.C. Mejia to Triple-A. Gimenez appeared in 29 games with Cleveland earlier this year, slashing .179/.226/.308 with two homers, four steals, five RBI and 10 runs scored. He's looked much better at Triple-A though, as he has slashed .287/.342/.502 with 10 home runs, eight steals, 31 RBI and 30 runs scored across 52 games. He could be worth picking up in deeper formats as a middle infielder with decent upside for the rest of the season.

Long one of the New York Mets' top prospects, shortstop Andres Gimenez made his debut in 2020, hitting .263/.333/.398 with 3 HR and 8 SB across 49 games at 2B, SS, and 3B. After being one of the pieces moved to Cleveland in the Francisco Lindor trade, there is some optimism around Gimenez in fantasy circles heading into 2021. Last year, as has long been with the case with Gimenez, the left-handed hitter displayed great defensive versatility and 94th-percentile speed, but little in the way of patience (5.3 BB%) or power (.136 ISO). While Gimenez makes contact with above-average consistency, he does little damage with it, finishing in the 20th-percentile in exit velocity and 11th-percentile in barrel rate. His calling card in fantasy will be a defensive versatility that should keep him on the field often in Cleveland and the speed to rack up stolen bases when he gets on base. However, people looking for cheap steals should temper expectations since Gimenez is an aggressive hitter with an above-average Swing% and Chase% who has never put up high walk rates in the minor leagues. He's likely to finish with an average around .250 with 8-10 HR and anywhere between 25-30 SB. That's nothing to turn your nose up at, but he's not going to help much in counting categories or with AVG/OBP, so if pitchers start taking advantage of his aggressiveness and keep him off the bases, thereby driving his SB total down closer to 20, you're not going to be getting a whole lot for his current ADP of 150. Considering Leody Tavares is going around 170, Nick Madrigal has an ADP of 190, and Jon Berti is being taken pick 245, I'd rather wait than take Gimenez at this current cost.
