Avisaíl García News
Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia was placed on the injured list without a designation on Friday. When this happens, it is safe to assume that the player either tested positive for COVID-19 or was feeling under the weather. There is no way to know when he will return until we know more about the situation, so stay tuned. The Marlins activated Jon Berti from IL in a corresponding move.
Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia homered again on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI in an 8-2 victory over the Washington Nationals. It's been a dreadful start to the year for Garcia, who is in his first season in Miami, but things have started to pick up in the past few games. Garcia has recorded at least one hit in eight of his last nine outings, and he's slashing .370/.393/.593 with two homers and a steal in his last seven. Fantasy managers could do much worse than a soild power-speed option who bats in the middle of a sneakily decent lineup.
Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against left-hander Madison Bumgarner and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Brian Anderson is shifting over to cover right field for the game. Garcia has had a quiet start to the 2022 season. Over 20 games, he's slashing .177/.207/.253 with one home run, three doubles and two stolen bases. He's gone just 2-for-17 against lefties, so it's not surprising to see him on the bench for Wednesday's contest.
Avisail Garcia was rewarded with a four-year, $53 million contract with the Miami Marlins after posting the best year of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021. Overall, he slashed .262/.330/.490 with 29 homers, eight steals, 86 RBI, and 68 runs scored over 135 games. The 30-year-old posted a career-high 12.2 barrel %, .515 xSLG (87th percentile), .367 xwOBA (85th percentile), and 26.1 HR/FB%. He is projected to hit third in the batting order and provide Miami's lineup an offensive boost. The one downside with the move from Milwaukee to Miami is that Garcia will now play half his games in spacious Loan Depot Park instead of the hitter-friendly confines of American Family Field. ATC projects Garcia to slash .231/.277/.435 with 23 home runs, 75 RBI, 70 runs scored, and eight stolen bases over 561 plate appearances in 2022. According to Rotoballer's Expected Draft Value, Garcia's ATC projections make him below fair value at his current ADP of 188. The Marlins outfielder will provide solid counting stats and is a good bet to hit 20+ homers and swipe 6-8 bags in 2022.
