Carlos Rodón News
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (forearm) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Monday and was very encouraged by how he felt afterward. Rodon will remain in Tampa, Fla., as the team goes north for Opening Day this Thursday. The 30-year-old southpaw is slowly building his arm back up after being shut down for two weeks in camp with a left forearm strain, and he's expected to throw one or two more bullpen sessions before he advances to facing live hitters in Florida. Rodon has been a fantasy ace the last several seasons while avoiding the injury bug, so he's worth stashing in all formats, and hopefully he'll be able to make his Yankees debut in 2023 in late April or early May.
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Thursday, and pitching coach Matt Blake said Rodon showed great rhythm and consistency with his command. After two or three more bullpen sessions, Rodon will throw live batting practice. And once he gets to that point, he should be around a month from making his Yankees debut in the regular season. With all that said, fantasy managers should not be expecting the 30-year-old southpaw to rejoin New York's starting rotation until after the first month of the season. Rodon has the potential to be a fantasy ace in his first year in the Bronx once he's healthy, but it also wouldn't be the first time in his career where injuries wrecked a lot of his season.
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (forearm) said he threw 15 fastballs in the bullpen on Thursday. He will probably play catch up to 90 feet on Friday and will then throw another bullpen session in a few days while mixing in some breaking pitches. This was Rodon's first time throwing off a mound since he suffered a left forearm strain in early March. The 30-year-old southpaw is slowly working his way back but will need to begin the 2023 regular season on the injured list. Barring a setback during his rehab assignment, though, Rodon should be able to make his season debut in his first year in the Bronx at some point in April.

Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon should have plenty of elite fantasy upside on the mound in his first season with the New York Yankees. Already one of the sport's best starting pitchers, the 30-year-old joined the Yankees as a free agent this winter after spending the 2022 campaign with the San Francisco Giants. While with San Francisco, Rodon pitched to a 2.88 ERA and a 2.25 FIP in 178 innings of work while registering 237 strikeouts and 52 walks. Elsewhere, the veteran finished in the 89th percentile or better in xSLG, xwOBA, xBA, and strikeout rate thanks in large part to a four-seamer and slider combination. Opposing batters managed just a .278 xwOBA against the four-seamer, while the slider finished with a 39% whiff rate. The run values for the two pitches were -22 and -9 respectively. Rodon also finished with a career-best 14 pitcher wins in 29 starts. With his elite effectiveness on the mound, Rodon could log a similar, or even better pitcher win total for a Yankees team that won 99 games in 2022 and featured three starters who posted double-digit pitcher wins.
