Domingo Germán News
New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German delivered his best performance of the season in Sunday's no-decision against the Red Sox. German carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning but was pulled after surrendering a leadoff double. The righty was charged with one run and one walk, posting a season-high 10 strikeouts with an impressive 18 whiffs, half of them coming on his curveball. German has now allowed just three runs over his last 11 innings pitched with a 15:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in that span. He seems to be trending in the right direction ahead of an appealing matchup against the strikeout-prone Marlins.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German put together a so-so outing in his first start of the second half against the Philadelphia Phillies. German kept the Phillies off the scoreboard for the most part, surrendering two runs on three hits while walking three batters. The righty struck out five while generating 10 whiffs on 70 pitches. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that German isn't fully stretched out yet, as he was pulled after 70 pitches, with seemingly more left in the tank. German hasn't been a reliable fantasy starter lately, allowing 29 earned runs over his last 36 innings pitched since the start of June.
New York Yankees right-hander Domingo German will kick off the second half of the season on Thursday by starting against the division-rival Boston Red Sox. German has had his ups and downs this year after sitting out all of 2020. The 28-year-old has a 4.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 75/19 K/BB in 17 appearances (15 starts) covering 81 innings pitched. He hasn't started a game since June 30 after being scratched from his last outing due to a root canal on a tooth. German won't be a recommended DFS play on Thursday evening because of the fact that he hasn't even gone four innings in his last three appearances, and he hasn't gone into the fifth inning of an outing since June 6. He's sporting a career-low 5.6 percent walk rate, which is nice, but he also has a career-low 21.9 percent strikeout rate.
The New York Yankees and fantasy managers have a tough decision to make when it comes to starting pitcherDomingo German. The 28-year-old had a 4.03 ERA in 2019 with 18 wins in 143 innings pitched. He accumulated 9.63 strikeouts per nine innings and an FIP of 4.72. German missed the rest of the season and was suspended for all of the shortened 2020 campaign. This was due to an investigation on a domestic-violence case against him. The 28-year-old isn't assured of a rotation spot in 2021, but general manager Brian Cashman also isn't ruling him out. In the Dominican Winter League, German had a 7.16 ERA with 18 strikeouts. At his current ADP of 315, there isn't much risk, which is what you should be looking for in a pitcher that missed all of 2020 and who has seen his strikeout rate drop in each of his three big-league seasons from 2017 to 2019. Unless he's injured in spring training, German has a very good shot at opening the season in New York's rotation.
