Domingo Germán News
New York Yankees right-hander Domingo German (shoulder) has thrown a couple of bullpen sessions and is now throwing all of his pitches. "Everything is going well, according to plan," manager Aaron Boone said. German is expected to throw live batting practice soon. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since the middle of March with a right shoulder impingement, but barring any setbacks, he could return to the Yankees bullpen in late May or early June. German was considered a candidate for the starting rotation this spring before his injury, but he's now likely to return to a bullpen role when he makes his season debut, which drastically limits his fantasy appeal.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on the week of April 25, according to manager Aaron Boone. German is progressing well and has had "no issues to this point." The right-hander began experiencing discomfort in his right shoulder in January, which delayed his throwing program. He was placed on the 60-day injured list on March 18 with right shoulder impingement syndrome. It's unclear if the 29-year-old will be ready to return when he's eligible, but fantasy managers are going to have to remain patient, and he doesn't have a clear path to a spot in the Yankees starting rotation when he's healthy.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German (shoulder) is likely to begin the 2022 season on the injured list. German had shoulder issues pop up in late January and will likely need more time to get ready. The 29-year-old right-hander will have even less time this spring to get ready for Opening Day, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be of much use early in the season. On the bright side, the Yankees expect Jameson Taillon (ankle) to be ready after having ankle surgery last October. German was suspended for all of 2020 and returned last year to post a 4.58 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while striking out 98 and walking 27 in 98 1/3 innings over 22 appearances (18 starts). Michael King stands to benefit the most in the Yankees rotation if German isn't ready to go in April.

The New York Yankees and fantasy managers have a tough decision to make when it comes to starting pitcherDomingo German. The 28-year-old had a 4.03 ERA in 2019 with 18 wins in 143 innings pitched. He accumulated 9.63 strikeouts per nine innings and an FIP of 4.72. German missed the rest of the season and was suspended for all of the shortened 2020 campaign. This was due to an investigation on a domestic-violence case against him. The 28-year-old isn't assured of a rotation spot in 2021, but general manager Brian Cashman also isn't ruling him out. In the Dominican Winter League, German had a 7.16 ERA with 18 strikeouts. At his current ADP of 315, there isn't much risk, which is what you should be looking for in a pitcher that missed all of 2020 and who has seen his strikeout rate drop in each of his three big-league seasons from 2017 to 2019. Unless he's injured in spring training, German has a very good shot at opening the season in New York's rotation.
