Eury Pérez News
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Eury Perez (back) is being placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive September 21. The right-hander will go down with one week left in the regular season due to SI joint inflammation. It appears the 20-year-old is done for the season unless the Marlins are able to make the postseason. This season, Perez holds a 3.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP with 108/31 K/BB ratio over 90-plus innings with the Marlins. The expectation is Perez will be fully ready in time for spring training, assuming the Marlins miss the playoffs. In a corresponding move, right-hander Jeff Lindgren has been recalled from the minors.
Miami Marlins rookie right-hander Eury Perez could make up to around 10 more starts in his first season in the big leagues. Perez has already been sent to the minors so that Miami could monitor the 20-year-old's workload, but they will continue to carefully monitor his workload for the rest of the 2023 season. He has already thrown more innings in 2023 than he did in both of the last two years combined, so it makes sense why the Fish want to protect their prized arm. Perez will make his return to the starting rotation on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds, and as long as he remains active for the Marlins, he needs to remain rostered in all fantasy leagues. He's been great so far with a 2.36 ERA (3.70 FIP), 1.09 WHIP, 17 walks and 61 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings (11 starts).
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Eury Perez is reportedly likely to be recalled from Double-A Pensacola for Monday's start against the Cincinnati Reds. Miami currently features a four-man rotation, so the timing makes sense to help fortify that setup. The 20-year-old Perez was optioned to the minor leagues following his July 6 start as a means of monitoring his workload, but it appears the Marlins are about ready to get another look at their top pitching prospect. The Reds in Cincinnati may not represent the most favorable matchup on Monday. However, fantasy managers should be re-adding Perez off waiver wires where he may be available even if they don't intend to start him for that one in his first game back. The hard-throwing right-hander picks up an encouraging 2.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 61:17 K:BB over 53.1 major-league innings upon his return.
