He was charged with his first loss and second blown save of the season. The 31-year-old entered the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. He allowed two runners on base and surrendered a three-run home run to Ke'Bryan Hayes. Before Saturday's loss, Rogers had thrown 20 1/4 scoreless innings. The southpaw is 17-for-19 with a 1.69 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 21 innings in 2022. Despite Saturday's hiccup, Rogers remains one of the top fantasy closers in 2022.
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Yency Almonte picked up his first save of the season in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. Almonte entered the game up by three with two outs in the ninth inning and runners on first and second. He allowed an inherited runner to score on a single but got the final out with a strikeout. This seems like a rare opportunity for Almonte, as Craig Kimbrel (back) is day-to-day after being hit in the back on Sunday and Monday's save opportunity arose late in the game, as opposed to being a traditional opportunity the team could plan for. He does have a 1.74 ERA in 20 2/3 innings pitched, but doesn't hold any fantasy value at this time.
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Joe Jimenez picked up his first save of the season in Monday's Game 2 5-3 win over the Guardians. Jimenez came in to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead and ended the game with a 1-2-3 inning and a strikeout. Gregory Soto has been the team's clear closer this season, but he closed out the Tigers' first game of the day. Jimenez has pitched well this season with a 3.23 ERA over 30 2/3 innings pitched, but his fantasy value is very limited at this time given his limited role.
Detroit Tigers closer Gregory Soto picked up his 16th save of the season in Monday's Game 1 4-1 win over the Guardians. Soto came in to pitch the ninth inning up by three. He allowed a leadoff walk, got the next two hitters out on a strikeout and ground out, allowed another walk, and closed the game on another ground out. The 27-year-old has had a walk issue this season but has been solid otherwise, converting all but two save opportunities with a 2.48 ERA, 30 strikeouts, and 14 walks over 29 innings pitched. He has been the clear closer for the Tigers this season and that should continue as long as he converts his save opportunities.
Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Brayan Bello confirmed that he will be called up to pitch Wednesday's game against the Rays, per Mass Live Sports' Katie Morrison. Bello is the team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old righty has gone 6-2 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 72 strikeouts, and 21 walks in 51 1/3 innings across nine outings (eight starts) with Triple-A Worcester. This is definitely exciting for fantasy managers in dynasty leagues and is intriguing for fantasy managers in single-season leagues. However, they should hold off on trusting him until seeing a few appearances at the big league level.
New York Mets relief pitcher Seth Lugo picked up his third save of the season in Monday's 7-4 win over the Reds. Lugo entered the game to pitch the ninth inning up by three. He got the first two hitters out on a ground out and a line out, allowed a single, and got the final out on another ground out. The 32-year-old has pitched well overall this season with a 3.45 ERA. Still, he has only converted half of his save opportunities and has limited fantasy value with teammate Edwin Diaz firmly entrenched as the team's closer. Diaz closed out Sunday's game, so he was likely getting a day of rest on Monday.
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Tyler Gilbert will be called up to start Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He has been solid in his last three starts in the minors, yielding three runs or less in his previous four starts. The 28-year-old has struggled for the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 7.88 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 14:6 K: BB across 16 innings in 2022. Fantasy managers should avoid using Gilbert as a streamer in all league formats for Tuesday's main slate.
Seattle Mariners infielder Ty France (elbow) could return to action later this week during the team's upcoming four-game series against Toronto Blue Jays beginning Thursday. He suffered a Grade 2 flexor strain on June 23, and he still has some obstacles to clear in his recovery. According to Mariners manager Scott Servais, the team is optimistic France will return this week. The 27-year-old has been remarkable this season, slashing .316/.390/.476 with 10 home runs, 45 RBI, and 32 runs over 70 games. Fantasy managers should expect to have France back in their lineups later this week.
Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras (hamstring) was removed in the 10th inning of Monday's loss against the Milwaukee Brewers due to hamstring tightness. He went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts before leaving. The 30-year-old is considered day-to-day and will be evaluated on Tuesday. He is slashing .274/.392/.498 with 13 home runs, 35 RBI, and 46 runs across 71 games in 2022. Contreras was replaced in the extra-innings by P.J. Higgins. The 29-year-old would see an uptick in plate appearances if Contreras is forced to miss any time. Stay tuned.
San Francisco Giants catcher Curt Casali (oblique) exited Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a side injury. The 33-year-old appeared to have hurt his oblique. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before leaving. Casali is considered day-to-day and will be further evaluated after the game. The veteran catcher is slashing .231/.325/.370 with four home runs, 14 RBI, and 13 runs over 41 games in 2022. Casali Austin Wynns replaced Casali in Monday's game. Wynns would see an uptick in at-bats while Casali is sidelined but isn't on the fantasy radar after hitting .227 over 44 at-bats in 2022.
Detroit Tigers pitcher Alex Faedo (hip) exited Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians due to right hip soreness. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three over 3 2/3 innings before leaving. The 26-year-old will return to the minor leagues regardless of his injury status. He is considered day-to-day. The right-hander owns a 1-4 record with a 5.02 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 42:21 K: BB across 52 innings in 2022. Faedo has struggled as of late, surrendering 17 earned runs over his last four appearances. Fantasy managers outside of deep-league formats can leave Faedo on the waiver wire.
