Jarlín García News
Free-agent left-hander Jarlin Garcia (biceps), who missed all of the 2023 season with a nerve issue in his biceps, recently resumed throwing. However, he won't be ready for the start of spring training but is expected to be game-ready by around May 1. Around six teams have shown interest in Garcia. The 31-year-old Dominican southpaw went 1-4 with a 3.74 ERA (4.27 FIP) and 1.20 WHIP with one save, 18 walks and 56 strikeouts in 65 relief innings for the San Francisco Giants back in 2022. Garcia had a 2.89 ERA with a 21.6 percent strikeout rate, a 7.2 percent walk rate and a 42.1 percent ground-ball rate in 202 2/3 innings pitched from 2019-22 with the Miami Marlins and Giants. When healthy, he can provide some strong relief depth from the left side.
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed left-hander Jarlin Garcia on Tuesday, pending a physical, according to a source. The deal is reportedly for one year and $2.5 million, and the Pirates will hold a $3.25 million option for the 2024 season, according to The Athletic's Rob Biertempfel. Garcia had a 3.74 ERA (4.27 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP, one save and 56 strikeouts in 65 innings over 58 relief appearances for the San Francisco Giants in 2022. He was designated for assignment last month and become a free agent when he cleared waivers. The 29-year-old won't be in the saves picture in Pittsburgh, so he won't have any fantasy relevance entering 2023.
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Jarlin Garcia picked up his first save of the season in Friday's 8-5 extra-innings win over the Dodgers. Garcia entered the game in the 10 inning up by three with Albert Pujols starting on second base. He got the first two outs, then balked Pujols to third, but got Mookie Betts out to end the game. Garcia only saw the save situation because Jake McGee pitched the eighth inning and Tyler Rogers blew the initial save opportunity in the ninth inning. The 28-year-old now has a 4.41 ERA on the season and does not hold fantasy value given his current role in the bullpen.
