José Quintana News
The New York Mets and left-hander Jose Quintana agreed to a two-year, $26 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources. Jacob deGrom left the Mets for a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers, but New York has moved quickly to replace him with American League Cy Young winner Justin Verlander and Quintana. The 33-year-old southpaw turned heads in 2022, recording a 2.93 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP, 137 strikeouts and 47 walks in 165 2/3 innings over 32 starts with the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals. He was even better in 12 starts with St. Louis with a 2.01 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Quintana isn't much of a strikeout artist for fantasy purposes, but he should be serviceable as the team's No. 3 starter behind Verlander and Max Scherzer.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol announced on Thursday that left-hander Jose Quintana will start Game 1 of the Wild-Card Series at home against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. The 33-year-old veteran left-hander began the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates but was acquired by the Cardinals in a trade. In total, he went 6-7 with a 2.93 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and a 137:47 K:BB in 165 2/3 innings over his 32 starts with the Bucs and Cards. In his 12 starts for St. Louis, he went 3-2 with a 2.01 ERA (2.60 FIP), 1.12 WHIP and 48 K's in 62 2/3 frames. Quintana made just one start against Philly this year and tossed 5 2/3 shutout frames while allowing four hits, walking two and striking out four.
The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire left-hander Jose Quintana from the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The return for the Pirates has yet to be reported. Quintana has made 20 starts for the Pirates in 2022, posting a 3-5 record, 3.50 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts over 103 innings of work. The veteran lefty will help bolster a Cardinals team that appears to be very motivated buyers at the trade deadline this season.
