José Quintana News
New York Mets left-hander Jose Quintana (ribs) has reached the maximum allowed during his minor-league rehab window and will be activated from the 60-day injured list for the start of the second half of the season on Friday. Quintana will most likely make his season debut with the Mets next week after recovering from bone-graft surgery on his ribs in the spring. The 34-year-old Colombian southpaw had a 4.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, eight walks and 16 K's in 15 2/3 frames over five rehab appearances (four starts) at three minor-league levels. He's coming off a career-best 2.93 ERA with the Pirates and Cardinals in 2022, but fantasy managers certainly shouldn't expect that level of performance in the second half from Quintana while coming off his injury this year. Still, he's worth a pickup in deep-mixed leagues, and he's only rostered in six percent of Yahoo leagues.
New York Mets starting pitcher Jose Quintana (ribs) threw 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts at Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. He yielded five runs on four hits with three walks while launching 79 pitches. The 34-year-old was unimpressive in this one, but will have a chance to produce better results during a simulated game next on Thursday. The Mets likely want to see Quintana put together a stronger appearance before having him make his team debut. It's been a long road back for the veteran southpaw, who initially hit the injured list with a left rib fracture way back on March 27. Quintana's career-best 2.93 ERA and MLB-best 0.4 home runs per innings in 2022 render him a credible deeper-mixed/NL-only league stash with a return looming.
New York Mets left-hander Jose Quintana (rib) will make his next minor-league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Syracuse. If all goes well during the appearance, it could be his last rehab start before rejoining the Mets' starting rotation. Quintana hasn't pitched at all in the big leagues this year after having surgery on his rib cage back in March. The 34-year-old had the best season of his career in 2022 and currently has a 1.04 ERA with nine strikeouts and two walks in three starts covering 8 2/3 innings in the minor leagues on his rehab assignment. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Quintana to be as good as he was last year, but he's certainly worth grabbing in mixed leagues if you're in need of pitching depth. With Quintana on the verge of returning, David Peterson could be in danger of losing his rotation spot.
