José Cisnero News
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero(shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday due to a right shoulder sprain. Pitchers Will Vest, Drew Hutchison, Jacob Barnes and Elvin Rodriguez have all made the Opening Day bullpen. Infielder Willi Castro will start the year at Triple-A. The injury troubles continue for Cisnero, whose 2021 season ended early when he injured his elbow falling down the stairs. The 32-year-old will miss the first couple of months this year. The Tigers will also be missing veteran Andrew Chafin to open the season, so the Tigers will have to step up in the late innings in order to get the ball to closer Gregory Soto. Cisnero had a 3.65 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, four saves and 62 K's in 61 2/3 relief outings in 2021.
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero (elbow) will not pitch again in 2021, according to Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. Cisnero landed on the injured list on September 14 after suffering a right elbow laceration. The injury occurred after he slipped on the stairs at his house. He has been with the Tigers lately and has been playing catch on the side, but the team didn't think there was a reason to bring him back for a final bullpen stint or two. The 32-year-old right-hander had a decent year out of the pen. Over 67 games, he posted a 3.65 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. He tallied 18 holds and four saves, but he also blew five save opportunities.
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Cisnero recorded his fourth save of the year in Sunday's win over the Chicago White Sox. Gregory Soto entered the ninth inning of the game while the Tigers were up 6-2, but he went on to give up three earned runs over 2/3 of an inning before he was pulled. Cisnero came on after the team's lead was reduced to one run and managed to get Andrew Vaughn to line out on just one pitch to end the game. With Michael Fulmer (neck) sidelined, it looks to be relatively clear that Cisnero is the primary closer for the team. Soto is the next man up behind him and his struggles on Sunday should widen the gap between the two relievers even more.
