José Quintana News
The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire left-hander Jose Quintana from the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The return for the Pirates has yet to be reported. Quintana has made 20 starts for the Pirates in 2022, posting a 3-5 record, 3.50 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts over 103 innings of work. The veteran lefty will help bolster a Cardinals team that appears to be very motivated buyers at the trade deadline this season.
Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Jose Quintana went 5 2/3 scoreless innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in a no-decision on Friday, allowing four hits while walking two and striking out four in the eventual 4-2 loss. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw further boosted his trade value ahead of Tuesday's deadline, and he's now sporting a 3.50 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 89 strikeouts and 31 walks in 103 innings over his 20 starts for the Pirates in 2022. He's had two rough outings against the Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Rockies in the month of July, but he's allowed just one earned run combined in his other three starts in the month. There's a good chance that Quintana will be changing teams before his next start.
Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Jose Quintana is drawing trade interest from multiple teams, including the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox, according to sources of FanSided's Robert Murray. The 33-year-old veteran has had a strong, healthy year in his first season with the Pirates. Over 19 starts, he's gone 3-5 with a 3.70 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He spent his first five-plus MLB seasons with the White Sox and had multiple standout seasons with the club, including 2016, when he pitched to a 3.20 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while winning 13 games.
