Luis Urías News
The Boston Red Sox placed infielder Luis Urias (calf) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Sept. 21) on Friday with a left-calf strain and recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. The move to put Urias on the injured list will effectively end his 2023 season. The 26-year-old Mexican spent this year with the Milwaukee Brewers and Red Sox, hitting a miserable .194/.337/.299 with only three home runs, six doubles, 18 RBI and 18 runs scored in 177 trips to the plate over 52 games played. In 32 games for Boston, he hit .225 (20-for-89) with two homers, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored. With Urias out of the picture, Pablo Reyes and rookie Ceddanne Rafaela will battle for extra playing time on Boston's infield for the final nine games of the season.
Boston Red Sox infielder Luis Urias (calf) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers. Urias was lifted from the contest for a pinch-runner in the seventh inning of Wednesday's contest. The team is calling the injury left calf tightness, so for now fantasy managers should consider Urias as day-to-day. The assumption is that he'll undergo additional testing to determine the severity of the injury. The Red Sox will likely use a committee approach to fill the void if Urias does miss time.
Milwaukee Brewers infielder Luis Urias is headed to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Bradley Blalock. The 26-year-old infielder has been dreadful at the plate this season, but the Red Sox want to see if they can tap into his potential. Urias is slashing .145/.299/.236 with one home run and five RBI in 17 games with the Brewers this season. He has spent a majority of his time in the minors and has been optioned to Triple-A Worcester with the move to Boston. Urias was productive each of the last two seasons, so the Red Sox will try and turn him around.

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Luis Urias took a step back from a respectable 2021 season in 2022, slashing .239/.335/.404 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI in 472 plate appearances. The 25-year-old hit the ball in the air more than ever, raising his launch angle to a career-high 18 degrees. Unfortunately, he did not hit the ball as hard as he did in 2021, with an average exit velocity and hard-hit rate in the bottom 25 percent of baseball. Consequently, his HR/FB% dropped from 16.9% to 11.9%. He also did not see as much playing time, despite playing second base, third base, and shortstop. Urias is currently being drafted at pick 249 overall, putting him squarely in the middle infielder/corner infielder range. Urias' role with the team will play a large part in determining his fantasy value, but it would not be inconceivable for him to hit 20 HR with 65 runs scored and 65 RBI if he can see consistent playing time. This possibility coupled with his multi-position eligibility makes him well worth a late-round pick.
