Luis Urías News
Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Luis Urias (hamstring) limped off the field after a ground out in the ninth inning of Opening Day with a left hamstring injury. Urias started at third base and was hitting sixth for the Brewers Thursday. He was 0-for-4 on the day. More testing will come in the next couple of days to get a better understanding of the severity of the injury. Urias was a popular late-round pick with upside in drafts but this is a troubling sign to begin his season.
Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Luis Urias and first baseman Rowdy Tellez are back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Thursday against the San Diego Padres and left-hander Jay Groome after playing for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. Urias is at second base and is hitting cleanup, while Tellez is at first base and is batting fifth in the order. Urias hit .278 with a home run and four RBI for Mexico. He's slated to serve as an infield regular for the Brew Crew in 2023 after playing a part-time role in 2022. The 25-year-old got off on the wrong foot last year due to a quad injury, but he finished the year hot and is looking to rebound. The 28-year-old Tellez will also be a lineup regular for Milwaukee. He hit a career-high 35 long balls in 2022 but also had a career-low .219 average.
Milwaukee Brewers infielder Luis Urias had a solid game at the plate for Team Mexico in Monday's 6-5 semifinals World Baseball Classic loss to Team Japan. Urias played second base and went 2-for-4 with a single and a three-run home run. The 25-year-old hit .278 in the WBC but has hit just 2-for-14 during the rest of the spring. Urias slashed a lackluster .239/.335/.404 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI in 2022, but he can play second, short, and third base, which should help him get routine playing time. Urias' multi-position eligibility and the lineup he hits in make him worth a look in deeper roto leagues.

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Luis Urias took a step back from a respectable 2021 season in 2022, slashing .239/.335/.404 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI in 472 plate appearances. The 25-year-old hit the ball in the air more than ever, raising his launch angle to a career-high 18 degrees. Unfortunately, he did not hit the ball as hard as he did in 2021, with an average exit velocity and hard-hit rate in the bottom 25 percent of baseball. Consequently, his HR/FB% dropped from 16.9% to 11.9%. He also did not see as much playing time, despite playing second base, third base, and shortstop. Urias is currently being drafted at pick 249 overall, putting him squarely in the middle infielder/corner infielder range. Urias' role with the team will play a large part in determining his fantasy value, but it would not be inconceivable for him to hit 20 HR with 65 runs scored and 65 RBI if he can see consistent playing time. This possibility coupled with his multi-position eligibility makes him well worth a late-round pick.
