Miguel Andújar News
The Pittsburgh Pirates designated infielder Miguel Andujar for assignment on Friday to make room on the 40-man roster for the recently signed Andrew McCutchen. The former New York Yankee, Andujar appeared in only 36 games in 2022 (27 with the Yankees) and slashed .235/.257/.311 with a .568 OPS, one home runs, 17 RBI, 13 runs scored and four stolen bases in 140 plate appearances. The 27-year-old hit .297 with an .855 OPS, 27 home runs and 92 RBI in his first full big-league season in 2018 with the Yankees, but he's struggled to come anywhere near that mark since. If Andujar goes unclaimed on waivers, there's a good chance he could return to Pittsburgh's organization and serve as infield depth in 2023.
Pittsburgh Pirates corner infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar went 1-for-3 with a single, an RBI, a walk, and a strikeout in Monday's 8-3 win over the Reds. The 27-year-old was claimed off waivers by the Pirates from the New York Yankees on Sunday. Andujar had some fantasy intrigue around him earlier in his career but never got the opportunity to consistently play with the Yankees. He has put together a poor .232/.257/.283 slash line in 105 big-league plate appearances this season but had a much better .285/.330/.487 slash line in 297 plate appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Maybe Andujar will be able to finally generate some fantasy value in 2023 with the potential for consistent playing time.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman/outfielder Miguel Andujar is serving as the designated hitter and is batting third on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Chase Anderson in his Pirates debut. The Bucs claimed Andujar off waivers from the New York Yankees after he was designated for assignment late last week. The 27-year-old Dominican played in just 27 games for the Yankees this year and hit only .229 (22-for-96) with a homer and eight RBI, but he played well while in the minor leagues and could see considerable playing time to close out the 2022 season with his new team, making him worth a look in NL-only and deep mixed leagues.
