Eduardo Rodriguez News
The Arizona Diamondbacks moved left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. Rodriguez recently suffered a setback with his left shoulder and now won't be able to return to Arizona's starting rotation until late May. The oft-injured 31-year-old southpaw pitched well in his final season with the Detroit Tigers in 2023 but was in line for regression with his move to the desert. Now that he's been unable to stay healthy early on in 2024, fantasy baseball managers in mixed leagues should probably look for better options instead of keeping him stashed in an IL spot. The good news for the D-backs is lefty Jordan Montgomery is set to join the rotation to make his season debut later this week.
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) is having his rehab paused after recently experiencing more tightness in his shoulder following a bullpen session. An MRI showed that there is still an issue with the strained left lat of Rodriguez, who has been shut down from throwing. After bagging a four-year, $80 million with the D-backs this past offseason, Rodriguez has had a miserable start to his tenure in the desert following an abysmal spring training. The 31-year-old Venezuelan left-hander's setback leaves his return timeline very murky, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back before the end of April at this point. Tommy Henry and Ryne Nelson will serve as starters in Arizona's rotation until E-Rod is ready to return, but the two hurlers are only low-end streamers in favorable matchups.
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) has started throwing bullpen sessions. He was removed from his Cactus League start on May 19 against the Chicago Cubs with left-lat tightness and was diagnosed with a strain after undergoing an MRI exam the following day. Even though E-Rod has made encouraging progress so far, the 31-year-old veteran southpaw is going to eventually need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before the D-backs activate him from the injured list for his team debut. Rodriguez will have a starting rotation spot waiting for him when he's ready to go, although he's a prime candidate for regression in fantasy leagues after posting career-bests in ERA and WHIP in 2023 in his final year with the Detroit Tigers.

Newly acquired Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez had one of his best statistical seasons in 2023. The southpaw set career lows in ERA (3.30), WHIP (1.15), OBA (.225), and HR/FB% (9.7%). It was his third consecutive year-over-year drop in HR/FB%. E-Rod pitched just 17 games in 2022 due to a rib injury and personal matter, posting a concerning 9.7% K-BB%. He bounced back though in 2023, posting a 15.3% K-BB% (career 15.7%). He tallied 13 wins last season in Detroit, who were 27th in the league in R/game (4.08), while the D-Backs produced the 14th-best R/game (4.58), so a couple more wins are possible. If there's cause for concern, it would be that other metrics such as SwStr%, Contact%, and Stuff+ were at or below league average last season. This could be dampening his draft stock, with a current NFBC ADP of around 191, but RotoBaller ranks him much higher at 161. FGDC projections have him going 11-10 with a 3.98 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 14.7 K-BB%, and 169 K in 177 IP. Nevertheless, the lefty should probably be going higher than unestablished youngsters Hunter Brown and Bryan Woo, as well as injury-prone Carlos Rodon and Chris Sale. His RotoBaller rank reflects that.
