Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Washington Nationals. Barnhart is having a rough month of May, so the Reds are trying other options behind the plate. Curt Casali will bat sixth and draw the start behind the plate versus lefty Patrick Corbin. Casali is hitting well, especially for a backup catcher, but doesn't have enough upside to warrant adding in almost any format.
Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, two runs, and two RBI in an 8-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. After the big afternoon, Barnhart is hitting .195 with a .643 OPS, five homers, 16 runs, and 14 RBI. The veteran catcher is not known for his bat, as his career high in homers is 10, set in 2018. Despite the low average, he shouldn't have much trouble eclipsing that number this season. He isn't of much fantasy interest outside of two-catcher and deep, NL-only formats.
Cincinnati Red's catcher Tucker Barnhart and outfielder Jesse Winker will start Sunday's game against the Giants on the bench. In their place to start against southpaw Madison Bumgarner will be Curt Casali behind the dish and hit seventh, while Jose Peraza will make the start in left and bat ninth. Kyle Farmer will draw the start at second and bat sixth. Peraza is batting just .197 with eight RBI, and just four stolen bases, while Casali doesn't have a long ball yet but is hitting .288 with five doubles and eight RBI. Farmer is a solid contrarian power option with five long balls and 13 RBI, but has a 27 K% to go with it. An opposing matchup with Bumgarner isn't a great DFS target but there is some potential for righties Farmer and Casali.
