José Ramírez News
Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez is out of the team's starting lineup on Sunday as they take on the visiting Oakland Athletics. In Ramirez's absence, Gabriel Arias will start at the hot corner and bat eighth in the batting order against A's right-hander Ross Stripling. Ramirez, a five-time All-Star, has gotten off to a bit of a slow start by his standards this year, going 22-for-92 (.239) with three home runs, 18 RBI, one stolen base and 15 runs scored in his first 21 games played and 95 trips to the plate. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too worried, though, and he should be back in action on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox after a scheduled off day on Monday. Arias is hitting .302 (13-for-43) with a homer, seven RBI and a steal in the early going, but he's never faced Stripling in his career.
Cleveland Guardians designated hitter Jose Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk on Wednesday in an 8-0 win over the Mariners. Ramirez now has three multi-hit games in his first seven, hitting .273 (9-for-33) with six RBI and eight runs scored. Fantasy managers who invested in him as the first third baseman off the board are expecting 20-plus stolen bases from the veteran, however, and he's yet to record one so far in 2024. It's still early of course, and the Guardians are one of the few teams active Thursday, so we'll see if he gets on the board. He'll face the Twins' Pablo Lopez whom he's seen 13 times before, going 4-for-13 (.308) with a triple and no strikeouts in his career against the righty.
Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez had his third straight game with a hit on Friday in a 10-0 Cactus League win over the Rangers. He's also had a hit in five out of the last six games, but he's yet to have a multi-hit performance this spring and is hitting just .200 (9-for-45) through 15 Cactus League games. On the bright side, he's hitting for power with three doubles and four home runs compared to just two singles. The 5x All-Star typically goes off the board as the first third baseman overall, due in part to his stolen base prowess at a position that is usually devoid of base stealers that can also produce in other categories like Ramirez can, but the 31-year-old has yet to swipe a bag in 46 spring PA, although he has been caught once. Regardless, the 4x Silver Slugger Award winner has been one of the most consistent and durable hitters for eight years now and shows no signs of slowing down, so look for another All-Star caliber campaign again in 2024.

Cleveland Guardians' third baseman Jose Ramirez continued his impressive career in 2023, boasting a .282/.365/.475 slash line and a 123 wRC+ in the latest season. Maintaining a remarkable consistency, Ramirez has had a 100 wRC+ or higher each year since 2016, securing five top-10 MVP finishes. Noteworthy improvements in his peripherals from 2022 include an increased average exit velocity from 87.7 to 90.0 and a rise in hard-hit percentage from 36.9 percent to 40.4 percent. At 31 years old, Ramirez finds himself in the prime of his career, poised for another outstanding season in 2024. Despite the Guardians' apparent lack of moves to fortify their lineup, the potential return of a healthy Josh Naylor and the anticipated call-up of top prospect Kyle Manzardo could reduce teams' inclination to pitch around Ramirez, presenting him with better opportunities. While Ramirez fell short of achieving three consecutive seasons with 100 RBIs, he remains a premier fantasy option if the Guardians' offensive performance improves this year. Currently holding an ADP around 12 and ranked 13th overall in fantasy, Ramirez's sustained excellence is evident. However, concerns arise from the Guardians' limited offensive enhancements, hinting at potential struggles akin to the previous year. Although Ramirez possesses the capability to excel in driving in runs and various hitting statistics, his fantasy standing may be influenced if opponents can replicate strategies from the previous year and pitch around him effectively.
