Joakim Soria News
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Joakim Soria (undisclosed) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday. It's unclear if the 37-year-old tested positive for the virus or came into close contact with someone infected. Soria owned a 5.06 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and a 40:12 K: BB over 37 1/3 innings in 2021. This season, the veteran pitcher has 11 solds (six saves, five holds), but fantasy managers can move on from Soria in most league formats. Left-hander Kirby Snead was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
The Toronto Blue Jays activated relief pitcher Joakim Soria (finger) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. Soria has made just one appearance for the Blue Jays since being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline. Overall, the veteran has pitched to a 4.15 ERA, a 3.29 FIP, 32 strikeouts, and eight walks in 30.1 innings this season. He rejoins a Toronto bullpen that also includes Brad Hand, Tim Mayza, Adam Cimber, and closer Jordan Romano. Soria should have some fantasy value in leagues where holds are part of the scoring. However, given the number of options in Toronto's bullpen, he's unlikely to pitch in many save situations.
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitchers Tim Mayza (elbow) and Joakim Soria (finger) could both make their returns from the injured list next week, according to Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic. McGrath reports that they could return for the two-game series in Washington on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Mayza landed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with left elbow inflammation, while Soria was placed on the IL with right middle finger inflammation last Wednesday. Mayza has been solid out of the bullpen for Toronto this year, going 2-1 with 13 holds, a 3.75 ERA, 1.056 WHIP and 25 percent strikeout rate across 36 innings. Soria was acquired at the trade deadline by Toronto, and over 30 1/3 innings of work this year between Arizona and Toronto he has gone 1-4 with six saves, a 4.15 ERA, 1.286 WHIP and 25 percent strikeout rate. Both should be solid options in SV/HLD formats when activated.
