Brandon Kintzler News
Free-agent right-hander Brandon Kintzler, who hasn't played in 2022, signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres earlier this week. He's hoping to help the major league team at some point in September. Kintzler last played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021. He was a former All-Star with the Minnesota Twins and has played for six teams in his 12 MLB seasons. The 38-year-old had a 6.37 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, 22 strikeouts and eight walks in 29 2/3 relief innings last year with the Phillies. Kintzler has 61 career saves and will provide the Friars with some bullpen depth and experience if he earns a promotion to the big leagues, but he's unlikely to be on the fantasy radar to close out the season.
The Philadelphia Phillies activated relief pitcher Brandon Kintzler (neck) from the injured list on Thursday. Kintzler has pitched to an 8.50 ERA in 20 appearances spanning 18 innings for the Phillies this season. Although he's struggled, the reliever could be worth a speculative add if you are in need of saves. Philadelphia's bullpen has struggled mightily as a group, and with Hector Neris no longer serving as closer, Kintzler could be a candidate to see some save opportunities. The veteran has 61 career saves, including 12 last season with the Miami Marlins. Fellow reliever Neftali Feliz was designated for assignment to make room for Kintzler on the active roster. Feliz appeared in two games and gave up four hits, four earned runs, a home run and a walk while also hitting a batter in one inning. He also struck out a pair.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Brandon Kintzler was told he made the Phillies Opening Day roster, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. Kintzler has pitched to a sub-three ERA in two straight seasons and will provide depth at the back end of the bullpen in his first season in Philly. The 36-year-old has closing experience with the Twins having accumulated 46 saves across the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Kintzler seems to be behind Hector Neris, Archie Bradley, and Jose Alvarado in the Phillies bullpen and, given his lack of strikeouts, doesn't hold much fantasy value unless he finds himself in the close role at some point.
