Gerardo Parra News
Veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra announced his retirement from the majors this past weekend. He will now be joining the Washington Nationals' front office as a special assistant to the team's general manager. Parra spent a total of 12 years in the majors. He came up with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009 and spent the first half of his MLB career with the organization before bouncing around a bit. He was a member of the Nationals' 2019 World Series Championship team. He retires with a solid career batting average of .275.
Washington Nationals outfielder Gerardo Parra swiped his first bag of the season Friday. He started in right field and batted eighth, going 0-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and a run scored in the 8-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Parra hasn't seen much playing time since being called back up to the majors in June, and though at-bats have opened up in the wake of the trade deadline sell-off, plenty of those opportunities will go to younger players. With just two homers and now one steal in his 81 at-bats, Parra's days as a useful fantasy piece are all but over.
Washington Nationals outfielder Gerardo Parra went 3-for-5 with a double Monday against the Miami Marlins, driving in one run and coming around to score twice. Parra has been playing nearly every day in left field in place of the injured Kyle Schwarber and he's been very hot over his last seven games, slashing .348/.400/.565 in 23 at-bats. He's currently hitting towards the bottom of the Nationals lineup, but he's still worthy of consideration in deeper leagues, even more so if he manages to work his way up the batting order.
