Brian Dozier News
Former Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier announced his retirement on Thursday after nine years in the major leagues and 167 career home runs. Dozier spent his first seven seasons with Minnesota before he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. He managed to hit 20 home runs and help the Washington Nationals to a World Series title in 2019. He signed with the Padres before the 2020 season but was released before latching on with the Mets. The 33-year-old was an eighth-round draft pick in 2009, making an All-Star appearance in 2015 and winning a Gold Glove in 2017. Dozier tied Rogers Hornsby for the second-highest home run total (42) by a second baseman in major league history in 2016. His 28 leadoff home runs remains a Twins record.
New York Mets second baseman Brian Dozier was designated for assignment prior to Sundays contest against Philadelphia, paving the way for right-handed pitcher Franklyn Kilome to join the active roster. Dozier went just 2-for-15 with the Mets, producing a -6 OPS+ in his short tenure. New York had little use for the veteran with Robinson Cano returning from the injured list, in addition to Luis Guillormes breakout 2020 campaign that has resulted in him batting .458 through his first nine games. Until Dozier latches on somewhere that can assure him consistent playing time, he can remain on the waiver wire in all season-long leagues.
The New York Mets have promoted second baseman Brian Dozier to the active roster. Dozier initially signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres, but was cut prior to the start of the new season. It didnt take long for Dozier to find a new home and he will bat seventh in his Mets debut versus the Red Sox on Thursday. Dozier is 5-for-14 in his career against Red Sox starter Martin Perez and has also hit two home runs against him. Dozier makes for a cheap option in DFS leagues, but is likely to play backup to Robinson Cano in most games.
