Chris Bassitt News
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt has made two appearances in the Grapefruit League this spring with mixed results. After two scoreless innings of relief in his first outing, Bassitt served up three runs in his most recent performance on Saturday. The veteran got off to a slow start last season, but had a good year overall with a nice 3.60 ERA to go along with 186 k's in 200 innings in 33 starts. His next chance to show off his talent should come in the middle of this week. Entering 2024, Bassitt is a nice 3/4 option for managers as he remains a consistent year-to-year option.
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt is going to be ready to pitch out of the bullpen if needed for Wednesday afternoon's must-win Game 2 of the Wild Card series versus the Minnesota Twins. The Blue Jays have their backs against the wall following a 3-1 loss on Tuesday while Bassitt added that he's "pretty comfortable" coming out of the bullpen. Jose Berrios is the Game 2 starter for Toronto but he will have a short leash if he struggles early. Bassitt has 13 career relief outings, but zero since the beginning of the 2020 season. The 34-year-old worked to a 3.60 ERA across 33 starts and an even 200 innings in his first season with the Blue Jays in 2023.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt was magnificent Thursday, tossing 7 shutout innings and earning the win in a 6-0 victory over the New York Yankees. Bassitt allowed five hits and one walk while striking out a season-high 12 batters. The 34-year-old will end the season at exactly 200 innings pitched, a feat he has never accomplished before. It has been a great year for the veteran, who has pitched to a 3.60 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while racking up 186 strikeouts in the aforementioned 200 IP. He will have solid mid-round value next season.

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt had a successful first season with his new team in 2023, going 16-8 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 22.5% strikeout rate in 33 starts and 200 innings pitched. The 34-year-old's numbers were nearly identical to his 2022 output. He was able to avoid hard contact, although his launch angle jumped up some from 10.8 degrees to 13.2 degrees. The most impressive metric was his 200 IP as he averaged just over 6 IP/GS. This volume helped make up his middling strikeout skills. Bassitt is currently being drafted at pick 139 overall, making him the 57th pitcher off the board. At this point in his career, Bassitt offers a relatively high floor and should turn in consistent yet unexciting results. Given the volatility among starting pitcher performance last season, Bassitt seems like a safe play at this draft price compared to more unproven options going just ahead of him, such as Hunter Greene, Tanner Bibee, and Cole Ragans.
