The Cincinnati Reds picked up shortstop Freddy Galvis' $5.5 million option for the 2020 season. Galvis has always been known for his superior glove work at the 6, but he managed to hit a career-high 23 home runs with the Blue Jays and Reds in 2019. Don't count on the power returning again in 2020, but Galvis has the opportunity as the presumed starter at a hitter-friendly park. He'll be more of a middle infield fantasy option in deep mixed and NL-only affairs.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Freddy Galvis (knee) is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Galvis injured his knee during a swing on Saturday and hasn't played since then. The Reds are going to give him a few days to rest up. Alex Blandino will bat leadoff and play second base versus lefty Cole Hamels. Blandino doesn't have much upside with the bat, so he can be ignored here.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Freddy Galvis went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in a 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday. Galvis took Miami starter Pablo Lopez deep in the fifth inning, giving him 22 dingers on the season. Overall, Galvis is hitting .280 with 64 runs, 65 RBI, and four steals on the season. He has been exceptional in his 14 games since joining the Reds, hitting .404 with four homers and 11 RBI over that span. Galvis is worth a waiver claim anywhere that he is still available.
