The Washington Nationals traded for relief pitcher Roenis Elias from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, minutes after making a deal for reliever Daniel Hudson. Like Hudson, Elias loses any fantasy value he may have had before the trade, because he won't be getting save situations in Washington. Elias has also struggled this season to a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias locked down the teams 5-3 win over the Rangers Wednesday, tossing a clean ninth for his 13th save of the season. Despite owning a 14.40 ERA in July entering the night, Elias has still remained the go-to guy for saves in the Ms bullpen. He hasnt posted sexy numbers with a 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts in 43.0 IP, but hes currently the most seasoned pitcher they have. Elias role is likely to change somewhat with Hunter Strickland set to return from the IL in Early August. Whether he returns to a setup role or splits duties for save chances, Elias fantasy appeal will significantly drop once Strickland returns.
Seattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias collected his 11th save of the season in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals. His only blemish was serving up a one-out double to Dexter Fowler, but he capped off the scoreless frame by striking out a pair and getting a groundout to end the game. Elias has been lights out in the ninth inning, going 11-for-12 in save opportunities, but he did take the loss in a non-save situation last week against the Astros. He holds a respectable 3.46 ERA and 40 punchouts in 39.0 innings this season, and should be owned in deeper mixed leagues for the fact that he's receiving all the save opportunities in Seattle.
