Yadier Molina News
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has not yet filed his formal retirement paperwork, but he's expected to do so before the conclusion of the World Series. Along with legendary first baseman Albert Pujols, Molina will ride off into the sunset this fall after a Hall of Fame career. But he won't be leaving baseball right away, as he's managing in Venezuela this winter before serving as the skipper for Team Puerto Rico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The 40-year-old backstop was a 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glove winner and two-time World Series champion in 19 big-league seasons. Molina walks away with a career .277/.327/.399 slash line, 176 home runs, 1,022 RBI and 777 runs scored in 2,224 regular season games played.
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (knee) will remain sidelined for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 40-year-old catcher will miss his third game in a row due to right knee soreness. The organization does consider him day-to-day, so hopefully he can avoid a trip to the injured list. Andrew Knizner will cover behind the plate and bat eighth against left-hander Andrew Heaney on Friday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly.
The St. Louis Cardinals activated catcher Yadier Molina from the restricted list on Monday and optioned catcher Ivan Herrera to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. The Cardinals also removed right-hander Ryan Helsley from the paternity list and placed him on the restricted list. Molina has been away from the team handling personal matters in Puerto Rico since Saturday, but he'll be available to begin the week and has returned to catching duties while batting eighth against Chicago Cubs left-hander Drew Smyly on Monday. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer is limping to the finish line of an amazing career with St. Louis, as he's hitting just .222/.243/.283 with two home runs, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base in his 180 at-bats in 2022.
