St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter will try and put a disappointing regular season behind him when the team travels to Atlanta to take on the Braves in the NLDS. The veteran slugger simply never could get his season off the ground, posting his lowest slugging percentage (.392) since 2014. Carpenter started off slow last season but still managed to hit 36 home runs. That number dipped to only 15 this season and totaled only 13 extra-base hits over his last 52 games. Carpenter will be a no more than a fringe fantasy option in the postseason.
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Carpenter will get a routine day off here against the left-handed starter. Tommy Edman will cover third base and bat seventh versus lefty Steven Brault. Edman has been reliable with the bat over the last month, so he's a solid DFS option here.
St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter is not in the starting lineup Wednesday for the second consecutive game. Carpenter has struggled this season, posting an underwhelming .215/.325/.366 batting line with only 12 home runs in 108 games, and it looks like any value he may have been holding onto just vanished as Tommy Edman looks to get more starts down the stretch. Edman will man third and bat seventh and is worth a flyer in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues for those looking for a cheap source of runs and stolen bases.
