Jurickson Profar News
San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar (leg) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's Cactus League matchup against the Oakland Athletics. The veteran slugger came up limping after rounding first base in the fourth inning. He was able to walk off the field under his own power. The expectation is that Profar will undergo further testing and an update will be given following the contest. The 31-year-old was 3-for-3 with a one home run and 4 RBI before exiting the game. The expectation is that Profar is going to be the Opening Day left fielder in San Diego.
Free-agent outfielder Jurickson Profar and the San Diego Padres agreed to a one-year, $1 million deal on Monday. He can earn an extra $1.5 million in incentives in 2024 based on plate appearances. Profar was with the Padres from 2020 to 2022 before joining the Colorado Rockies as a free agent for the start of last year. The 30-year-old switch-hitter batted just .236 (98-for-415) with eight home runs and 39 RBI in 111 games for the Rockies in 2023 before going 13-for-44 (.295) with a homer and seven RBI in 14 games to close out the season with San Diego. He'll now return to the Friars, who were in desperate need of outfield help after trading Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the Yankees in the offseason. As things stand now, Profar should have the leg up on a starting spot in left field to open the 2024 season, but his bat lacks any real upside for fantasy managers.
The San Diego Padres signed free-agent outfielder Jurickson Profar to a minor-league deal on Friday. He's expected to report to Triple-A El Paso, but he's certainly a candidate to be called up now that rosters are expanding to 28 players on Friday. Profar became a free agent when he was released by the Colorado Rockies on Sunday after hitting .236/.316/.364 with eight home runs in 111 games after signing a $7.75 million deal in 2023. He initially opted out of a deal with the Padres that included a $7.75 million player option for 2023 and a $10 million mutual option for 2024. The switch-hitter batted .244/.333/.375 with 26 homers in 345 games with the Padres from 2020 to 2021.

San Diego Padres utility player Jurickson Profar returns to sunny Southern California after signing a three-year deal this offseason. In his first year with San Diego Profar put up one of the best performances of his career, including career bests in batting average (.278), on-base percentage (.343), and strikeout rate (13.9%). And with seven home runs over 56 games, Profar was on pace for 21 homers over a full season, which would have been his third consecutive 20-homer campaign. But amidst all that, there were some signs of concern for Profar, as his launch angle (11.0 degrees), barrel rate (3.2%), hard-hit rate (27.7%) and contact rate (81.1%) were all down from 2019, and his 8.8 percent swinging strike rate was his highest since 2012. And if all of that wasn't enough, the Padres are suggesting that they plan to use Profar primarily off the bench as a utility infielder/outfielder. Until a starting role opens up for Profar (ADP 239) he should be considered an above-average fantasy bench player to pop into the lineup whenever he gets a start.
