Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak (rest) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Rangers. The 32-year-old will get an off day as the recently called-up Rowdy Tellez will play first base and bat sixth against Rangers left-hander Kolby Allard. Smoak has struggled for a majority of the season, batting just .212 to go along with 19home runs and 52 RBI through 98 games. Smoak is not worth owning in mixed leagues with uncertainty about his playing time with Tellez back on the Major League roster.
Toronto first baseman Justin Smoak was a big part of the slaughter on Monday night, going 3-5 with a two-run home run, four RBI, and three runs scored as the Blue Jays beat the visiting Rangers 19-4. Adding two doubles, Smoak could use the jumpstart as his 19th home run of the year was his first in 12 games. Toronto continues it's series today against Texas starter Lance Lynn.
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak was 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk during Monday's 7-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians. The veteran slugger is slashing .215/.354/.418 on the season to go along with 16 HRs, 42 RBI, and a 20 percent walk rate. Smoak's production has been a far cry from the All-Star season he delivered in 2017. Nevertheless, he offers above-average power at a low cost. He is a viable option in deep standard leagues or AL-Only formats.
