Brandon Nimmo News
After a season that fell short of expectations, the New York Mets are reportedly open to tinkering with the lineup, including potentially moving outfielder Brandon Nimmo down from the leadoff spot. The lefty had a bit of a power surge last season, smacking a career-high 24 home runs. If he can maintain that power he could provide some protection in the lineup for Pete Alonso, but it's uncertain who would fill the void at the top if they were to make the change, although they do have three intriguing options in Jeff McNeil, Francisco Lindor, and Starling Marte. The case could be made, however, that each of them has their own issues that render them not viable at the top of the order. Regardless, the former first-round draft pick should continue to be an on-base machine, with a career .380 OBP. Being at the top of the lineup would provide him more at-bats and would boost his run totals, but he'd presumably be in line for more RBI opportunities if moved down. He doesn't steal many bases, so the move might be a wash for fantasy purposes. As it stands, the 30-year-old is going off draft boards around pick 189, but RotoBaller ranks him higher, at 174 overall.
Outfielder Harrison Bader is set to serve as the New York Mets' center fielder this year, with Brandon Nimmo shifting to left field, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Bader will give the Mets an upgrade in center over Nimmo. However, the 29-year-old Bader has had trouble staying healthy and took a step back offensively last year with a .232/.274/.348 slash line with seven homers, 40 RBI and 20 steals in 98 games with the Yankees and Reds. Bader hasn't played in over 100 games since 2021 and will mostly be appealing to fantasy managers for his speed in deeper mixed leagues while hitting near the bottom of the order in New York. Nimmo, meanwhile, will be a strong No. 3 outfielder in fantasy after slashing .274/.363/.466 with 24 homers, 68 RBI and 89 runs in 152 games in 2023 as the Mets' leadoff hitter.
The New York Mets have placed outfielder Brandon Nimmo (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right shoulder. Nimmo had to leave during the fifth inning of Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins as a result of a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder, but it shouldn't affect his availability for the start of 2024. The 30-year-old hit for more power in the first year of his new Mets contract, matching a career high with 30 doubles and setting a new career best with 24 home runs in 682 trips to the dish. Despite Nimmo's speed and MLB's new base-stealing rules, he didn't unlock that area of his game with just three swipes. He should remain a solid source of runs and average next year with a big boost in fantasy leagues that count walks.

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo quietly goes about his business as one of the most consistent offensive outfielders in the game. He's not going to lead the league in home runs and he isn't a middle-of-the-order run producer. However, he's an elite table-setter whose bat has been at least 30% more productive than the league average in five of the last six seasons, as per wRC+. Last season, he slugged a career-high 24 home runs and tied a career-high with 30 doubles to go along with six triples, second-most of his career. He has hit at least .274 in each of his last four seasons and his 191 runs scored over the last two campaigns ranks seventh among qualified outfielders. His walk rate has dipped to 10.7% in that time, but he has also walked at a 13% clip in his career. He's your perfect leadoff hitter who has struck out less than 20% of the time in two of his last four seasons, maxing out at 21.4% in that stretch. RotoBaller's 181 ranking is nearly 11 spots below his 191.83 ADP, making Nimmo an undervalued player given his elite year-to-year consistency.
