Carlos Correa News
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (oblique) did some light glove work off to the side on the field on Wednesday and said he's swinging and doing baseball activities as he recovers from an oblique injury that sent him to the injured list. It sounds as though there's some possibility that he could come off the IL on the coming road trip without a minor-league rehab assignment if things keep trending well. The Twins start their road trip in Los Angeles against the Angels this Friday. The 29-year-old Puerto Rican is itching to get back as the team's starting shortstop after starting the year 11-for-36 (.306) with a homer and four RBI in 11 games played. Willi Castro has been serving as Minnesota's primary shortstop since Correa was placed on the IL.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (intercostal) won't be ready to return from a right-intercostal strain when he's eligible to come off the injured list on Tuesday, but he's close to resuming baseball activities. According to head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta, "his symptoms are improving dramatically." The Twins are being somewhat cautious to avoid a months-long absence with Correa given the setback-prone nature of his injury. The 29-year-old landed on the IL on April 13 with a mild intercostal strain. While there currently isn't a timetable for a return, he looks to be on the mend and could return in early May. Willi Castro is serving as the team's primary shortstop for now. Correa will hope to pick up where he left off when he returns, as he's so far hit .306 (11-for-36) with a homer and four RBI in 2024.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (side) is dealing with a mild right intercostal strain. The Twins initially listed Correa's injury as a right oblique strain, but the team changed its diagnosis after he underwent additional imaging. The timeline for Correa will be announced next week. Correa is eligible to come off the injured list on April 22. Willi Castro started at shortstop for Correa in both games of Saturday's doubleheader and should see an uptick in playing time. Castro went for 2-for-8 with a double, two-run homer, a walk, and three runs scored over both games on Saturday. Fantasy managers searching for speed can look to add Castro to most leagues after he stole 34 bases in 2023.

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa saw a massive drop in overall production in the 2023 season. The 29-year-old slugged 18 home runs with 60 runs scored and 65 RBI across 135 games but also continued to deal with a foot injury that continues to be a concern. He noted to fans at TwinsFest this winter that he is "starting to turn a corner" in regards to his foot woes but his .711 OPS from 2023 lingers large. He did rank in the 71st percentile or better in both average exit velocity and hard-hit rate in the 2023 season and also suffered from a .272 BABIP that is well below his .312 career mark. Age and foot injuries are an ominous issue for players at the shortstop position, however, as it is difficult to gauge how he will respond in an attempt at a bounce-back campaign in 2024. He hasn't stolen a base since collecting one in the 2019 season and while his 20 projected home runs by ATC are solid, he remains an injury and production risk at his 242.72 ADP. Managers would be wiser to use a higher pick on more assured health and production at shortstop closer to the top of the draft.
