Rio Ruiz News
Colorado Rockies infielder Rio Ruiz has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. First baseman Matt Adams was released in a corresponding move. Colorado claimed Ruiz after he was designated for assignment by the Orioles back in May. He slashed .167/.250/.300 with three home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases over 101 plate appearances with Baltimore this season. He's not starting on Tuesday vs. the Angels but could see more playing time down the stretch, depending on what kind of moves the Rockies make before the trade deadline.
Baltimore Orioles second/third baseman Rio Ruiz was designated for assignment on Tuesday, per MLB.com's Joe Trezza. The 26-year-old had shifted from third base to second after the O's signed Maikel Franco and struggled at the plate this season with a .167/.250/.300 slash line. The O's now have seven days to trade or release Ruiz, and he can remain in the organization if he clears waivers. The team recalled utility man Stevie Wilkerson from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.
Baltimore Orioles second/third baseman Rio Ruiz saved his team from getting shut out in Tuesday's 2-7 loss to the Yankees, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run (his first of the season) and two strikeouts. Ruiz took Lucas Luetge deep to right field with two outs in the ninth inning to finally get the O's on the board. Ruiz is off to a slow start this season, slashing .188/.278/.375 with a 38.9% strikeout rate. He has shown that he can hit for power, but Ruiz's fantasy value is limited by his inability to hit for average. Fantasy managers should avoid him at this time.
