Trevor Williams News
Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams is the only healthy pitcher who has not reported to spring training yet, as he remains home in San Diego waiting for his wife to give birth to the couple's first child. Barring another addition to the roster, Williams is penciled in as the team's No. 5 starter and is expected to arrive at camp within the next few days. Based on what general manager Mike Rizzo said, the 31-year-old shouldn't face any competition for his rotation spot to open the 2024 season. He won't really be of much consideration in mixed fantasy leagues, though, after posting a 5.55 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 144 1/3 innings for the Nationals last season. When former first-rounder Cade Cavalli (elbow) makes his season debut at some point this summer, it could push Williams to a long-relief role.
The Washington Nationals are skipping right-hander Trevor Williams' turn in the starting rotation, but manager Dave Martinez said that Williams will make another start next week. The team's weekend rotation against the Atlanta Braves will be Jake Irvin, Patrick Corbin and Joan Adon, with the final starter on Sunday yet to be announced. The 31-year-old Williams' next start lines up to be on Sept. 27 in a tough matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. We wouldn't recommend streaming him for that one, especially after he's surrendered 18 runs (17 earned) on 25 hits (five homers) while walking six and striking out eight in 10 1/3 innings in his three September starts against the Marlins, Dodgers and Brewers.
Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams had a start to forget on Sunday against the visiting Oakland Athletics, allowing five earned runs on six hits (three homers) while walking two and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Williams was lucky to pick up a no-decision in an eventual 8-7 victory. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues might want to start looking for better options. The 31-year-old San Diego native is in a tough stretch over his last four starts, allowing 20 earned runs on 30 hits (eight homers) while walking seven and striking out 16 in 19 innings pitched. On the year as a whole, Williams is 5-7 with a 5.20 ERA (5.93 FIP), 1.52 WHIP, a league-high 28 long balls allowed, 40 walks and 90 K's in 117 2/3 innings (24 starts) in his first year in D.C.
