Kyle Schwarber News
Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber bashed two home runs to help complete a series sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, gathering three RBI in the 7-6 win. In a four-run first inning against Rockies right-hander Ryan Feltner, Schwarber homered to deep right before greeting Peter Lambert in the sixth frame with a two-run blast to make a 7-1 ballgame. Fantasy managers who drafted the 31-year-old three-true-outcomes slugger probably know the deal already; Schwarber is hitting just .230 (17-for-44) but is making up for it with five homers, nine RBI, 13 runs scored and 10 walks in his first 19 games of the season. A big weekend could be in store for Schwarber, as he'll get a three-game series at home against a Chicago White Sox club that holds the seventh-worst ERA (4.46) and sixth-worst WHIP (1.40) in the major leagues this year. He did go hitless in 10 at-bats against Chicago last year, though.
Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored during Sunday's 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves. The veteran slugger deposited a Chris Sale fastball into the seats for his first homer of the season. Schwarber will be his classic self in 2024, offering monstrous power numbers at the expense of his batting average. The 31-year-old can stay locked into fantasy lineups moving forward.
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that he expects outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber (groin) to play in the Grapefruit League contest on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox after he was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday versus the Detroit Tigers as a precaution due to right-groin tightness. "He said he felt fine to play, but I pulled him out just as a precaution," Thomson said. The 31-year-old left-handed slugger seems to be just fine and will be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season at the end of March. Schwarber has carried one of the lowest batting averages in recent seasons among regular starters, but his elite power production and RBI opportunities in a strong Phillies lineup make him worth of being a No. 2 fantasy outfielder.

Meet the poster boy of three-true-outcome hitters, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber. Since joining the team as a free agent in the 2022 offseason, Schwarber has struck out more times (415) than any other batter. What Schwarber lacks in batting average, however, he more than makes up for with elite power offerings and on-base skills. The slugging two-time All-Star may have missed out on his third career midsummer classic and hit under the Mendoza line in 2023, but he slashed a unique .197/.343/.474 with 47 home runs, 19 doubles, a career-high 104 RBI and 108 runs scored in 720 plate appearances over 160 games. After stealing a career-best 10 bases in 2022, the slow-running Schwarber proved that may have been an anomaly by coming up empty in that area a year ago. Though Schwarber projects as Philadelphia's everyday designated hitter and leadoff man in 2024, don't expect the 30-year-old to swipe more than a handful of bags. Schwarber's lack of consistent contact also lends itself to a regular dose of hot and cold streaks throughout the course of the campaign, making the former Silver Slugger a category-specific fantasy proposition. One thing is for certain, though, a healthy Schwarber is going to mash plenty of homers and score lots of runs atop a robust Phillies lineup. Just don't expect much in the way of BA and speed. Treat Schwarber as a top-50 guy in OBP and points leagues for his propensity to draw free passes (17.5% walk rate) as well as for punt-average builds in 5x5 mixed formats.
