The Chicago White Sox optioned outfielder Adam Engel and pitcher Caleb Frare to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. A couple of days ago it was expected Engel might stick around as the fourth outfielder, but he is slashing just .212/.281/.346 in 58 plate appearances with the big club. It's uncertain who will be coming up to the big club, but you can safely drop Engel in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues if you were hanging onto him hoping he could finally realize his potential. The White Sox will announce the corresponding roster moves prior to Monday's game in Cleveland.
Even following the demotion of Chicago White Sox outfielderDaniel Palka to Triple-A, outfielder Adam Engel is still expected to remain the team's fourth outfielder, according to manager Rick Renteria. Ryan Cordell has been called up to take Palka's spot on the roster and is starting in right field on Thursday. Engel has serious speed but his .120 average this year has limited him to zero steals thus far. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Engel is likely going to see increased playing time over the next couple of weeks. Leury Garcia (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list, so Engel is expected to play just about everyday. However, Engel has struggled with the bat this season, so he won't be an option in almost any fantasy league. Engel is batting ninth and playing center field against righty Lance Lynn. He's hitting .226/.286/.303 off right-handed pitching this season, so Engel can be avoided in DFS contests.
