New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said that relief pitchers Robert Gsellman and/or Seth Lugo could be shifted to starting roles in 2020 with Zack Wheeler potentially moving on in free agency. Lugo and Gsellman have both been more effective in relief, but both could be effective streamers in the right matchups in deeper leagues if they're starting for New York next season. Gsellman notably failed in a starting role several years ago, which could make Lugo the better candidate to join the rotation. We'll have to wait and see in spring training how the Mets approach their rotation.
The New York Mets trailed 1-0 for the majority of Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park. In the sixth, however, they took the lead after scoring twice. Manager Mickey Callaway opted to go with reliever Seth Lugo, fresh off winning NL Reliever of the Month for July. The 29-year-old suffered a meltdown, managing just one out while getting charged with five runs on five hits and a walk. It was his worst performance in some time and ultimately what caused the Mets to suffer a second consecutive defeat in Atlanta and third consecutive altogether.
New York Mets relief pitcher Seth Lugo (shoulder) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Lugo is dealing with right shoulder tendinitis, so this could be something that sidelines him for longer than 10 days. He was pitching well out of the bullpen, so it's shame to watch him go down. Hector Santiago has been called up and he'll join the Mets bullpen on Monday. He was pitching well in the minors, but probably won't have much fantasy value at all.
