Yohander Méndez News
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yohander Mendez will make a spot start in the place of Bartolo Colon (illness) Sunday. Mendez has made one start so far this season and he struggled a lot. His one start came in June against the Colorado Rockies, giving up six earned runs in just three innings. Mendez has had a reasonable amount of strikeout upside in the minors, and he has a relatively good matchup in facing the Minnesota Twins. However, his youth and lack of experience make him an impossible person to trust and use in this start on Sunday.
Texas Rangers starting pitching prospect Yohander Mendez has been promoted from High-A Down East To Double-A Frisco. Mendez is the team's No. 7 prospect, according to MLB.com, but he was sent to Single-A last month for violating team rules in the majors. The left-hander had allowed six earned runs and eight hits over just 3 2/3 innings in two outings (one start) for the Rangers this year, but he had a 3.48 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 31 innings over five starts in High A before his promotion. Mendez throws strikes and keeps the ball down, but he'll need to develop a better breaking pitch in order to have success in the majors.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yohander Mendez has been optioned to Triple-A for violating team rules. Mendez is not the only player being disciplined but he is the only player being removed from the roster. Mendez had a terrible outing in his first career major league start, giving up six earned runs in three innings against the Colorado Rockies. Mendez had been earmarked as a future regular rotation piece for the Rangers, but there is no indication how long he will remain at Triple-A. For now, Mendez should be dropped in all leagues, as even when he is on the roster he has a lack of real upside.
