Ozzie Albies News
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker said that second baseman Ozzie Albies (toe) won't need surgery on his fractured big toe but doesn't have a specific timetable for a return from the injured list. It sounds like there's a chance Albies could be back in two weeks, which means three weeks might be the safer bet, especially this early in the season. It's ultimately good news for the 27-year-old after he was hit by a pitch in Monday's 6-1 win over the Houston Astros. Fantasy baseball managers must be patient with the All-Star second baseman and keep him stashed in an IL spot in all formats. In the meantime, outfielder Michael Harris II will hit near the top of the batting order, boosting his short-term fantasy stock. Luis Guillorme, who is starting at second on Tuesday, and David Fletcher figure to split playing time at the keystone in Atlanta with Albies hurt.
The Atlanta Braves placed infielder Ozzie Albies (toe) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with a right big toe fracture and selected the contract of infielder David Fletcher from the minors in a corresponding move. Albies fractured his toe when he was hit by a pitch in Monday's 6-1 win over the Houston Astros and he's going to be forced to miss at least the next 10 days and probably more with the ailment. The 27-year-old second baseman is a big hit for fantasy managers in all formats, as the three-time All-Star was hitting .317 (20-for-63) with two home runs, 14 RBI and two stolen bases in his first 15 games in a stacked Braves lineup. For as long as he's sidelined, keep him stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues. Fletcher and Luis Guillorme will most likely split the playing time at the keystone in the meantime in Atlanta.
Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies (toe) had an extremely sore toe after being hit by a pitch in the second inning in Monday's game against the Houston Astros, and the Braves will wait and see how he feels on Tuesday morning before determining if he'll play. Albies played the rest of Monday's game but was limping afterward and had his foot checked out. The 27-year-old appears to be day-to-day for now, so fantasy managers will want to check back closer to game time on Tuesday to see if Albies is in the starting lineup. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI, walk and two strikeouts in Monday's 6-1 win over Houston and is hitting a strong .317 (20-for-63) with two home runs, 14 RBI and two stolen bases in his first 70 plate appearances of 2024.

After an injury-riddled 2022, where he missed 68 games with foot and hand injuries, you wanted to see Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies bounce back in 2023, and he did- in a big way. Last season, he was among the league leaders for second basemen in home runs (2nd), RBI (1st), and runs (4th). He also set a career-high in wRC+ (124). Fantasy managers would like to see more than 13 SB from Albies (by comparison, a slower Freddie Freeman stole 23). Still, unfortunately, it appears Albies has lost a step (88th percentile speed in 2017, down to 54th percentile in 2023). Moreover, with Matt Olson (54 HR) and Austin Riley (37 HR) hitting behind him in the lineup, he may not take the chance of getting thrown out on a steal, so managers hoping for an uptick may be disappointed. Nevertheless, with his multi-category production, he's currently ranked as the No. 1 second baseman option at RotoBaller and ranked 21st overall, slightly ahead of his current ADP of 24. When looking at the counting stats, you're splitting hairs between Albies and the next-best 2B option (Marcus Semien, 24th overall), but when all else is essentially the same, go with the younger player. Semien will be 33 in the 2024 season, while Albies will be 27.
