Lewis Brinson News
Catcher Jorge Alfaro is headed to the San Diego Padres, as the Miami Marlins have traded him in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Alfaro was expendable after the Marlins acquired 2021 Gold Glove-winning backstop Jacob Stallings from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Alfaro will fight for playing time with Austin Nola, Victor Caratini, and Luis Campusano. The Marlins also designated outfielder and former top prospect Lewis Brinson for assignment. Brinson has 1035 career at-bats, but has only managed a .570 OPS with 25 homers and nine steals. He'll seek to restart his career elsewhere in 2022.
Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson (thumb) has a chance at playing during Tuesday's doubleheader against the New York Mets, according to manager Don Mattingly. He has been sidelined since last Thursday due to a left thumb injury. Before going down, Brinson was in the middle of a 2-for-34 at the plate. The once prized-prospect has not been able to put it together at the plate. He isn't worth stashing in fantasy leagues and can be left on the waiver wire.
Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson (thumb) was held out for the second straight game on Saturday as the team faced the Cincinnati Reds. Brinson suffered a left thumb sprain in Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals. He is being considered day-to-day for now. Jorge Alfaro, Bryan De La Cruz and Jesus Sanchez have filled out the Marlins' outfield in each of the past two games with Brinson sidelined. Over 61 games on the year, Brinson has slashed .239/.280/.426 with seven home runs, 25 RBI and 19 runs.
