Ryan Castellani News
Colorado Rockies right-hander Ryan Castellani took a no-decision when he surrendered two runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts in an 8-6 win over the Giants in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader. Castellani was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to make his season debut on Tuesday and didn't fare too well. He surrendered a two-run shot to Brandon Belt in the first inning and walked four batters over his 3 1/3 innings. He'll most likely be sent back down to Triple-A so there's no fantasy value to chase here.
Colorado Rockies pitcher right-handed pitcherRyan Castellani was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. The 24-year-old right-hander entered camp competing for a roster spot in the Rockies rotation, but things did not go well in the Cactus League. He allowed 10 runs (seven earned) over two innings pitched. He was a long shot to crack the rotation in the first place, but his spring performance certainly didn't help his cause. Castellani made his major league debut during the shortened 2020 campaign and struggled with a 5.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 25:26 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings. He will likely get called up at some point in 2021 for the rebuilding Rockies, so this isn't the last we've heard of him. He won't be on the fantasy radar when that call-up happens, though.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Castellani had a rough outing in his Cactus League debut on Wednesday against the Athletics. He only surrendered two hits, which led to seven runs (four earned), while also walking a pair over his two innings of work. The poor outing wasn't entirely his fault, though, as a few costly errors by first baseman C.J. Cron and left fielder Raimel Tapia factored into the inflated run total. Castellani didn't look sharp for his part, however, as only 24 of his 44 pitches went for strikes. Command was an issue for the 24-year-old last season as well, when he registered a rough 5.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 25:26 K:BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings (nine starts). He's currently competing for a rotation spot with Austin Gomber and will need to improve on his command if he wants to win the job. He's not a recommended fantasy arm, even if he does make the starting rotation.
