Tanner Scott News
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his second save of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants. Scott came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a flyout, allowed back-to-back walks, and got the final two outs on a strikeout and a pop-out. Things haven't gone smoothly for the 29-year-old, as he is 0-3 and has converted two of three save opportunities with a 4.15 ERA, an 8.31 K/9 rate, and a huge 12.46 BB/9 rate. Scott ended the 2023 season to earn the closer's role to start 2024, but walks have been an issue throughout his career. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out to see if he can get them back under control.
Miami Marlins relief pitcher Tanner Scott had another rough outing on Sunday, blowing the save and taking the loss in a 9-7 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Braves. Scott allowed a crushing two-out, three-run homer to Marcell Ozuna in the ninth that flipped this game on its head. Scott has struggled severely so far this season and might be in danger of losing the closer role if he can't figure things out quickly. Fortunately for him, no one else in the Marlins pen looks worthy of the spot either, so he might be given a few more chances.
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott took the loss in a 9-7 extra-inning defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Scott was tasked with the 10th inning of a tied game but allowed a hit, a walk, and committed an error. This led to two Pirates runs, which was enough to saddle Scott with the loss. The walks are a big concern for the 29-year-old, who has never had much command in his career, although he was able to control his pitches better last season. He has now walked three hitters in two innings so far this season, and if he continues down this path he could relinquish the closer role.

Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott had an excellent 2023 season and ended up as the team's closer. The 29-year-old went 9-5 on the season, converting 12 of 16 save opportunities with a 2.31 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and a 33.9% strikeout rate in 78 innings pitched. Scott's lively fastball and devastating slider have always led to impressive strikeout numbers, but walks have historically been his issue. However, he was able to wrangle them in, posting a career-low 7.8% walk rate compared to a 12.7% career average. He also did an excellent job limiting hard contact for the second consecutive season. Scott is currently being drafted at about pick 120 overall, making him the 17th closer off the board. Perhaps there are questions about job security, but the job seems to be Scott's going into 2024 based on how manager Skip Schumaker handled games to end 2023. Scott offers some of the best strikeout upside among closers, which makes his current ADP surprisingly low. If he can produce like he did in 2023 throughout a full season, he will end up being a draft steal.
