Ariel Jurado News
Right-handed pitcher Ariel Jurado was a primetime prospect coming up through the Rangers organization, but after two lackluster big league seasons, the 24-year-old was designated for assignment, whereby the Mets claimed him Wednesday. Despite having 44 appearances (26 starts) to his resume, Jurado was reassigned to the teams alternate training site. Not much jumps off the page when it comes to the right-handers metrics, as he allowed 21 home runs in 122 innings last season en route to a 5.81 ERA. But New York is banking on him finding his rhythm, whereby he could become an option in the rotation down the line.
Texas Rangers pitcher Ariel Jurado cruised through his outing in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Angels. Jurado entered the game in the second inning after opener Emmanuel Clase and went on to pitch six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out one. Jurado had gone out for the first inning in his previous eight appearances, but was having little success. He'd earned losses in his previous four outings in August. Jurado has an uninspiring 15.2% strikeout rate on the year and ranks amongst the bottom 10% of the league in hard-hit rate (42.9%). He's a risky streaming option going forward and is best left on waivers.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Ariel Jurado had a weird night in Chicago as he allowed six runs but also threw an eight-inning complete game while taking the loss. Jurado allowed 10 hits and a walk but was efficient enough the Rangers left him in for eight innings. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, part of that efficiency was only racking up two strikeouts meaning there was very little fantasy value despite the long start. Jurado has had his moments this season but carries little value overall. He has a 5.48 ERA with a 5.06 FIP to match. He's especially struggled lately allowing 16 earned runs in his last three starts spanning only 13 2/3 innings. He's not a recommended play in his next start Wednesday at the Angels.
