Eloy Jiménez News
Chicago White Sox outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez (foot) is back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Friday against the Oakland Athletics, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. Jimenez fouled a ball off his foot in Wednesday's spring game and was held out of action on Thursday as a result. He's back in there now, though, so it appears the oft-injured 27-year-old dodged a bullet and should be ready for Opening Day on March 28. Fantasy managers should know that Jimenez is a pretty big injury risk, as he's missed at least 40 games in all five of his major-league seasons. He hasn't been able to match the 31 home runs he hit during his rookie campaign in 2019, either. Because of that, RotoBaller has Jimenez ranked as the No. 46 fantasy outfielder in 2024.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez (foot) has suffered a bruised right foot after fouling a pitch off of it on Wednesday. The oft-injured 27-year-old is listed as day to day at this point. It's been a productive spring to this point for Jimenez in Cactus League action as he is hitting .356 with one homer, 12 RBI, and an .894 OPS across 47 trips to the plate. He took a step back at the plate in the 2023 season when he hit .272 with 18 home runs, 64 RBI, and a .758 OPS across 120 appearances, good for a 105 wRC+ that represents the second-lowest mark of his five-year career. He is a solid bounce-back candidate who projects for 23 home runs and 73 RBI by ATC across 125 games in the 2024 campaign but he still carries substantial injury risk.
Chicago White Sox designated hitter Eloy Jimenez continued his hot spring on Wednesday in a 12-9 Cactus League loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jimenez went 2-for-2 with a walk, a single, and his first home run of the spring, driving in two runs and scoring in all three plate appearances. The powerful righty now sits alone atop the spring leaderboard in hits with 12, with five multi-hit efforts in eight games played. The 27-year-old has worked with hitting coach Marcus Thames on his swing and it appears to be paying off. It's also a contract year for Jimenez so there's extra motivation, for him and the White Sox, as he could also be a potential trade chip.

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Eloy Jimenez played in 120 games in 2023. While that number is the highest since his rookie season, he saw his underlying numbers drop across the board the 27-year-old put together a season where most stats came in below his career average. Barrel %, exit velocity, launch angle, and hard hit % all ended below career norms. There are other numbers in the same boat. As far as fantasy output, however, he had a decent season with a .272 average, 18 home runs, and 64 RBI. That will give managers hope he still has a breakout in him, but he will need to drastically improve his underlying numbers. ATC has a 71/28/87/.275 projection for the Dominican and that seems like a ceiling at this point, if he can stay healthy and turn around some of the aforementioned stats. There may be a single leading factor to Jimenez not doing more damage last season, his sweet spot %. He was in the bottom one percent in baseball in that category, with a 26% rate. If he can get that number back near his 31.7% from 2022, there may finally be a coming-out party. There are talks of the White Sox trading him, and fantasy managers may be ready to give up on his potential, it just depends on if you think he can fix his sweet spot rate.
